my first new car purchase and my first Mazda. I'm in love

Congrats!

As for synthetic oil... I've run full synthetic in our Mazda5 from new (now has 85k+ miles). You don't save THAT much over conventional oil, so why not give your engine the better stuff? Do the changes yourself, and you will have an engine that will thank you for it.

I agree, synthetic isn't that much more for extra peace of mind. Plus Mazda uses a pretty thin 0W-20 in the quest for better MPG, so that's another reason not to skimp on the oil.

Hey I saw you on reddit :)

Dealership says to use synthetic only, I need to research if this is true. If anyone can help with this question that'd be great.

It does not matter what they say.
YOU DON'T HAVE A CHOICE!!! You must use only synthetic as at this point in life the recommended oil for 2012+ is 0-20w and this grade is ONLY available in synthetic formulation.
Now that you know don't waste much time researching and spend more time driving (headbang)

Once upon a time, dino was $1/qt and synth was $6/qt. Now dino can't be had for less than $4/qt unless in bulk, but a qt of synth is $7/qt. When you buy 5/6 qts, you can find synth for nearly the same price as dino. Add the extra 1000-2000 miles between oil changes, and <why the heck are you even considering old skool oil?>

Beautiful car

I have had my 2012 Copper Red since Summer of 2011 when they first came out. 28K miles on mine. All synthetic, no issues.
