MSP vs. BEGI kit

hold on, there isnt any mazdaspeed turbo kit, you mean why does the MSP dyno lower than say a regular protege with the BEGI? Its mazda- its OEM, and they use a lot of lower class/plastic pieces, generally a lower quality install (also a very small intercooler)... I think most of what I said is correct, if not someone please correct me.

Isn't it also because the msp is using a small t25 and the aftermarket kits are using a larger turbo..I read on some thread that you can't compare psi to psi on different turbo setups...but I could be wrong..

thats right, duh, the MSP uses the t25 and BEGI the t3 i believe.

its true, you cant compare psi on different turbos together

You're not wrong, you are most certainly right. Comparing PSI to PSI on different sized turbo's isn't a good way to measure a turbo's efficiency. Especially when smaller turbos come into play. Larger turbo's will be more powerful at higher boost levels than a smaller turbo will be.

i was about to post that the msp uses a t25 ....that would have been my first argument....cause that is the reason....damnit i just felt like posting something aight....

psi for psi on different turbos is way off.
9psi on a t25, isnt the same as 9psi on a t3.
They flow different CFMs, which is how much air is actually being pushed in at that psi, or pressure, and is based upon the AR rate of the turbo... which is how big the compressor is....but im really still an idiot on this, but theres the basics, or at least sorta..

OFF TOPIC. but pdhaudio how did you rev yer dads MSP to 7500
the revlimiter is at 7000.

ON TOPIC. i think the small IC and the week IC pipes have some to do with it.

hmm is it, musta been 7000 then. its kinda hard to see what its at when i was looking at the road. I just looked down to the tach for a split second and thought i saw 7500. thanks for correcting me, i wouldnt want to be 500rpm off.

7300 (unless my tach was off :)) is where my car would hit the rev limiter. I have heard 7300 from others also.

yeah thats true
it was more like 10psi when that happened though
and not enough fuel

this has been discussed before, but that was back in the day
back in the day when the MSP was an infant, and few had them

ah back in the day....

The reasons as i understand them are:
Larger turbo = more air, the begi/FP is a t3.
Better intercooler, less of the air charge is wasted and it is cooled better.
More advanced timing which will yeild more power but easier detonation.
Less fuel, the MSP appears to dump fuel fo no reason.

All this being said at the recent meet I drove 2 MSPs and with the injen and stock boost I noticed little difference from my car to the MSP. I was running 6 PSI from my BEGI kit, I have the MP3 and no first cat, no CIA though. Of coarse I do have that damn huge alternator so I don't know how much that robs me of power.
