umm yea my mazda dealer is warrantying my transmission..my second gear was messed up and 3rd was messed up..i can say safely 3rd is from grinding racing and second was for a time when it didnt go in all the way and i released the clutch and BANG( i wasnt racing or nething jstu driving slowly in a plaza )...it should be done this week...its been 2 weeks already without my car and its starting to suck....took long cuz " the parts are on back order" according to the service guy...i assume short shifter would eliminate my chances of grinding 3rd by at least 75%?Jasonstiller said:

Where the hell is the SHORT SHIFTER. Don't understand why this would take so long when they already have an SS for the M3???

Aren't short shifters usually bad for synchros, with second already being hard to get into I'm thinking it may make the problem worse, but I may(or most likely am) be wrong.
Yeah, we've been told since December that they'd be along in a "couple of months." Frankly, if I had more time, I do it myself. All you really need to do is move the pivot point on the machanism that connects the shifter cables to the tranny. It's nearly identical to the ones used on VWs and there were at least 4 aftermarket companies that stepped up right away. I guess that's one thing I miss by going with this particular car. The aftermarket for the MS3 is practically non-existent.
My guess is that the advertisers on here who said they were working on a SS were either lying or stopped development. Bummer.

We have experienced quite a few delays sourcing parts for the production version, but that is all taken care of now. We're in the process of finishing the production run on our newest short shifter for the Eclipse 6 speed, and the MazdaSpeed 3 is next on the list.

i can wait..im going to shift slower when i race so i dont **** my gears up again..untill the ss kit somes out..but i think all i would need as a driver is for the pole where the knob screws on to be cut and re thread or something...sometimes ive tried shifting holding the shifter where the washer is where the top of the boot rests and it works fine. jsut wierd cuz no knob...

THat's like, instead of lowering you car, you just cut the springs, but then your car rides like crap and eventually your struts blow because of bottoming out and soft springs. A true short shifter actually moves the leverage down more, most of the times a short shifter is the same length of a stock shifter, but the actual pivot point moves up on the shifter, so your side looks shorter, and it just extends farther down below the car. So, for the small moves you make above, your leverage moves the lower portion farther.
Just cutting that crap just makes you work harder, without getting any feel of the shifter being tighter, since you have less leverage. Also, I'm bored and explained way too much of this. (friday)

I'm interested in a Short Shifter. I've had one on most of my previous cars and they've really made the car more fun to drive. It's a pretty inexpensive, well engineered, non-intrusive mod that helps alot.

I am looking to decrease the performance of my car. Will a long shifter be available? I've been running 87 octane gas and have been somewhat pleased with the results. I think a long shifter might be the next step to me finally breaking into the 18s in the 1/4th.
