MP3 stereo layout details?

Okay, I've searched the FAQ and this forum and Protege Tech and can't find what I need, so here goes.

I've got the Z919 (unlucky me).

1) I want to replace it with another simpler Kenwood unit with a detachable face (my cars have a history of getting broken into at home and at work, so nothing fancy). I'm thinking the KDC-217 or 2019.

2) I'll have the subwoofer out most of the time so I can stick my bike back there.

Questions:

1) Without taking the system apart to find out, how is the head/speaker/amp(?)/sub wired together?

2) Is there a separate amp from the head unit, and where is it?

3) How many sets of preamp outputs on my new head will I need to run just the four door speakers?

Mucho gracias,

the speakers are good, eXceleron stuff, if you look in your trunk at the bottom of the speakers you can see the numbers and the blue cones.

the subwoofer has an internal 100watt amp i believe.

as for the wiring i dont know.

Well it might not be so unlucky for you. :)

If it is this model KDC-MP919 I might be interested in purchasing it.

Let me know if this is the one you have, send me a PM.

Thanks.

Here goes....
If I were you I would keep the Z919, if you get the instructions out and understand how to tune it, you can really do alot of stuff with it like setting the q lp hp front speakers, rear speakers, the only thing that I see a problem with this mp3 player is when you play an actual MP3 cd you can not fast fwd through the song. You can on a regular or burnt cd.
As far the outputs on the Z919, you have a front r and L (RCA) Rear r and L (RCA) Subwoofer R and L (RCA)
So you can hook up external Amps to the cd player and power everything.
The subwoofer in the trunk has an internal amp built into the sub, so to un hook it you need to un hook the RCAs and HarnessPlug. The Plug has a yellow power wire built in to the harness with a remote wire and a ground.
The internal speakers are ran off the Z919 which is like 45wattsX4 which is a small internal amp that you cant see.
If you decide to keep the Z919 and add amps to it you will need to run RCAs to the back of the car, you dont have to take cd player out to hook up the RCAs behind the deck. Just get into passenger side, take the panels off of the center console that is close to the glove box, get a flash light and look up in there and you will see the back of the Deck and you can just hook the rcas up that way.
So Good Luck
