more exhaust????

after searching for a while I was not able to find much info.

after debating for a while on what exhaust system to get for my protege 5 I decited to go with an axle back setup from mazda. After pricing them I decited to go to my local dealer, $195.00. When talking to the guy there he said that mazda discontinued the ones in the accesories brosure. they know had a new mazda speed version, $300.00, it looks very nice. the guy said that it is stock equipment on the msprotege. I can still get the old one at mazdastuff.com.

My question is,
Has anyone seen the new one yet?
Is it really worth the extra $100.00?
Does it have any performance gains over the old one?
Is it really stock eqipment on the msprotege?
If I do go with the old one, does it mater if I get the one for the protege or protege 5?

If this has already been a discusion on this please point me to it.

I must say...I have more than 6 months with this exhaust, and....if you are looking for performance from this axleback, you will find nothing but a nice looking muffler with a deep hummmm sound output.

If I do go with the old one, does it mater if I get the one for the protege or protege 5?

Yes it does, P5 is shorter. So it wont fit on the sedan and viceversa.

So, I should pay the extra $100.00 got the new msp version? I realy dont expect to gain 15 hp from an exhaust system. but I would like to see a slightly better response and a better sound.

The MSP's gains come from a combination of ECU, intake, exhaust and other tweaks. But, most exhausts (like sound systems) are subjective. So, if you could find some demos of each, then that would be your best comparison really.

I'd just save up another $100 and get a full cat-back from Bosal or Racing Beat....

my dealer has teh exact same part for $220. Online there is a site that has it for $197.

try and haggle with them cuz thats a rip..and yes you can haggle. I got my mazdaspeed floormmats for $70 instead of 92 or whatever ungodly amount they wanted for them. I jsut told them to beat a price offered by another dealership
