Maff's STS2 Build

Dude...there's NO way these would have fit w/ wheels / air lmao. It's such a tight squeeze. Note to self: Miata != transportation device for large objects.... I pretty much had to cram the 1 in the trunk in there w/ the spare out. On that note, it'll suck pretty hard (and be EXTREMELY ironic) if I get a flat on the way to get them mounted with a car full of tires...
It's a MUCH tighter fit than what shows in the pics:

I'm pretty happy with them, but a little surprised at how much void is between the center groove and the 2 'outer' grooves, and between those and the shoulder. I figured there'd be a boatload more tire in that space, but what can you do lol? They're wider and shorter than the 15" Azenis, so hopefully that will offset that somewhat. They should do nicely for this season :D

Yeah, the P5 and Miata are pretty much polar opposites lol. About the only thing they have in common is the manufacturer, and that the engine is in the same general location lol

Don't forget to drive around on them as much as you can before the event to get the mold release off. They will be "greasy" until then. So take the long way home.

Definately will. There's all the way home and all the way to Turner on Sat.

I probably could have told you that. The last time I was in WI, my friend I was staying with had a stack of these sitting in his kitchen. I was surprised by the same thing.

actually try to get there around 5:30-6
Alright, I'll leave right after I get back from work. 5:30 may be pushing it, but my appt is pretty much on the way to the shop. I should be able to get there right around 6.

2 event in 2 days FTW! 1st event was Atlanta region SCCA points 4 on Saturday. I couldn't get the course figured out, and ended up 4th of 6 drivers. Ouch. Rogue beat me by a solid (and very round) 1.000 seconds for 3rd. Apparently my added helmet rice didn't add much horsepower to my brain:

The hankooks are nice, extremely predictable, sticky, with a small OD, but I think we may be running pressures too low. I'm probably going to try around 39-40 next event. That's the feedback I'm getting from others running the same tire. They felt a little sqirmy (more than just full tread squirmy). I wasn't rolling over on them, but I feel that may be mostly due to the alignment (-2.5* ftw).

2nd event was in the Alabama region where I had never run in before. They have a HUUUUGE lot (when they use the whole thing, they get runs close to 2 minutes). Our runs were probably averaging around 70 seconds, which was verry nice. Almost topped out 2nd in a couple of places too, and that's on a big ol' 15" tire. I'm almost certain the CSP guys on 13s were hitting 3rd (they were running when I worked, so I didn't really hear / get to ask). They had a very interesting (esp. if you didn't pace it off) 10 cone slalom. It started right around 15 'steps', gradually opened up to around 35 in the middle, and then gradually tightened back down to aroudn 15 at the end. Definately kept you on your toes. Anyway, took 1st out of 3 STS2 drivers, so that was nice. My 2nd class win to-date, so I'm pretty happy with it. Got a little souvineer to add to the bookshelf ;)

Mazdaspeed Motorsports Motor Mounts (Aka my quad-Ms... (ugh)) came in today. With any luck, I'll be able to slap those on this weekend :) Pics later if I'm feeling spry

Did you suddenly turn into a 90 year old? :p

The hard part about installing the motor mounts is getting the old ones out.

I took off the header to get good access to the bolts on the drivers side.
