so i recently have encountered a ton of CEL codes.... car is running like crap and idles rough some time as low as 300rpm... sometimes it tries to die all together but the choke catches it.. crazy stuff checked for vaccumm leaks infact im at 22 psi of vac. so nothing there.. anyhow im sure its one thing causing most the errors thanks in advance

in response to the missfire i changed the plugs with NGK copper and replaced that boot

P0171 - lean air/fuel bank 1 also says (cylinder number 1 denotes bank 1) (my wideband says at idle 13.2...)
P0140 - heated oxy sensor ho2s circuit no activity (is this the up stream or downstream?)
P0102 - MAF sensor low input signal
P0401 - EGR insufficient flow detected (needs cleaned im guessing?)
P0660 - IMCC actuator circuit malfunction (ive changed this damn sensor with a new one 2 months ago)
P0302 - Cylinder 2 misfire condition detected (def is missing)
P0300 - Cylinder random missfire detected

thats alot of crap... buying a new vehicle for a daily this week this damn car is always breaking lol

.

1. "bank 1 lean"
if you say ur vacuum is perfect around 22 inches of Mercury, not psi, then extra air is coming into the exhaust system somewhere past the intake side of things. it could be that first o2 is detecting extra oxygen because of a uncomplete combustion (thus relating to a problem with ignition system, is the car stuttering at all?),
or air is getting sucked in into the exhaust mani after the head (like if the exhaust mani bolts were loose, or the ex mani gasket was torn), my mani had a couple of nuts loose by the power steering pump.

2. "o2 no activity"
i had a CEL(check engine light) when i took my j-pipe off (running open downpipe baby!), thus no exhaust was actually running past the second o2 sensor, throwing a "no activity" code. check both o2 sensors if they are plugged in SECURELY.

3. "MAF low input"
clean the maf, then test the maf (http://www.mazdaspd.com/manual_files/01-40b.pdf,, page 28), otherwise replace the maf

4. "insufficient EGR flow"
yup, if u didnt block, or mess with egr before, then cleaning it is!

5. "imcc"??? intake mani what? are you referring to the 2 actuators on top of the intake mani, 1 for vics and 1 for vtcs?

6. "cylinder misfires"
probably has something to do with the "running lean" condition from above. start with replacing coils, wires and plugs.

If vehicle is misfiring or has a bad mass air flow sensor it can cause your oxygen sensor and lean codes to set, is vehicle is running lean that will cause your oxygen sensor to stay put, also misfire can sometimes set lean codes as well on some cars if you have a malfunctioning fuel injector or a sticking open egr valve. based on my experiance, i'd start with mass air flow sensor (cleaning it may work but i never had good luck with that) then i'd check egr valve make sure its not stuck open (every single protege will need one eventually... i've replaced over 50 of em when i worked at the dealer) also make sure your plugs are gapped right.

now that you mentioned it i did experience most of these CEL's right after i changed the plugs so im going to regap the plugs, what should i put them at? also im buying a new daily this week (audi TT) for the gf to drive and ive been wanting to pull my mani and do the delete on the vcts so while im that far in im going to replace the EGR, intake gasket, and visually inspect those injectors make sure there is no cracked o ring or anything like that.. guess there is noway to know if its faulty without narrowing evreything else out first huih? ima jump on the marketplace right now and buy a new mass air flow thanks for the help ill start with that!

Keep in mind if you have already seen some of those codes they are probably just old codes that have been stored in the ECUs memory. Before you do anything I would reset the ECU by disconnecting the battery for about 15 minutes and then drive the car and read the codes again. Don't buy a MAF, don't start throwing parts at the car it will just waste your time and money and make you more frustrated.
I would also clean the EGR, MAF and make sure your spark plugs are properly gapped to .028-.032".

OK so I put new o2, regapped plugs, cleaned egr, seafoamed the intake and gas and now I have 0 cels.. but not it barely will idle some times dies and my wide and a/f is Max on lean until I put my foot into it so if I'm trying to maintain a speed it sputtering like its running out of fuel but as soon as I put my foot into it a little bit to accel. The a/f shoots to optimal 14s and will go to 11.1 when wot like it should and runs amazing and pulls harder than ever.... any ideas??
