Launching and Shifting for Best Acceleration

According to my G-Tech, the best 0-60 I've had (7.04, I could probably do better if my 1-2 shift was faster, but I've only been driving stick for < 1 month) was by doing this:

Launch at 3000 RPM, slipping the clutch, quickly letting out once rolling. Tires chirped but did not lose traction.

Shifted 1 -> 2 @ 6000 RPM
Hit 60 right about 6500 RPM in 2nd.

1-2 should be at around 6500..dont go much higher or rpm will just plain drop. if you do this, 2nd should be in around 4k, letting the turbo really start going.

imagine the times without the hesitation! =)

jersey,

a few months back i remember someone (cannot remember who, maybe rx-kevin?) saying something to the effect of this:

get in 1st gear, and with the clutch engaged just enough so you do not roll fwd or bkwd, rev to around 4000 rpm and when the "light goes green" let out the clutch.

also, i shift 1-2 around 6000-6500rpm too.

it has worked for me, after getting practice of course.

happy shifting:D

how do those lil devices work, they dont even plug into anything but your cigarette lighter from what ive seen. I dont understand how it can monitor all that stuff and be accurate. Someone wanna explain these things?

jersey_emt hopefully I wont hear alot of bs for this but here is my theory. When you launch the car the engine torques alittle and jolts the motor mounts causing excess stress and faster wear on the motor mounts.

Here are my steps.
1. grab the e-brake handle and hold the button down and pull the e-brake about 2/4 the way up
2. rev the car to 4000
3. slowly let the clutch out (mine begins to engage about 1/4 the way up.
4. you will feel the car try to move foward and therefore you will already have load on your motor mounts.
5. Light turns green jam down gas and release clutch while putting e-brake down. (you will get used to it)
6. now feather the gas pedal when traction starts to go out around 3k to 4k. when I mean by feather I mean slowly let on and off the gas slightly before you totally lose traction and hit the rev limiter. once again it will take practice.
7. Shift into second and be on your way.

The key I believe is not losing complete control of the tires in 1st, for those who have 9 + psi know what I mean.
