I saw that article, too. I'm way dissapointed with the MSP project. I picked up Import Racer instead. Their one article is 1000x better than Turbo's supposed "project". They go through the steps that they took to get 210whp and why they did them in that order. I am probably getting a subscription based on that one issue alone (they have a lot of other good things in it, too). That was the first one I had seen.

(help) Dude, what would it take for another MI native to get their hands on that article? If you scan it and email it to me, I will be your bestest best friend in the world. (rockon) Haha...thanks man. I missed the article in Turbo Magazine also, the stores were all sold out of it before I found out the car was in that magazine. I have a subscription to about everything but Turbo and Import Racer (first Japanese car I have ever owned, growing up near D-Town, working for Ford). Anyways, thanks man...

Not yet, I did send it in over the weekend though. I'm sure the reply will be some BS form letter, Thanks for your interest in what we are doing, we value your opinion crap.

I guess next year I'll be getting an Import Racer subscription instead.

Import Racer basically summed up in one article what Turbo Magazine has been trying to sum up for about 4 months now and who knows how much longer. Turbo's FMIC article was pretty cool, the intake article lacked and now this!?!?! I just wish Import Racer had some better cars to check out besides the MSP. Oh well, I guess thats what Super Street and Sport Compact is for (and Modified sometimes)

Hope this helps you understand my note. Also, the Import Racer article was 100% better than the series in Turbo. It provided more detail and data in one article. No teaser s*** like the rag using your products. All of this could be total BS to simply sell magazines!

Bottom line is if you want to modify your car with bolt ons, don't wait for an article to show you how. The know-how exist and the products are available. The only thing missing is a new ECU or piggy back system. Now thats something for you to work on, ION. We are saturated with down pipes, FMIC/SMIC, boost controllers,turbo backs etc!

You can find general review type articles in Motor trend. Import Racer is on the stands now, or you can search for it on here. Turbo has a series starting in October 2003. Don't waste your time on that. Read the MT and IR for mod suggestions/results.

DAWIV - yes the car lost peak power POST FLASH compared to PRE FLASH ceteris parabus (after the FMIC & CAI were installed). They were not comparying a stock post flashed car vs. the pre-flashed car equipped with the FMIC & CAI.

Import Racer's project gained 3 hp post flash. Their car has a downpipe, turboback, FMIC, and an SRI. They went one step further and upped the boost to 9.4. If true, thats a meaningful article.

Like I said, I am not commenting on your products. I applaud any vendor that offers parts for the MSP!

So how about working on the ECU issue? That would be great. (thumb)

Ion, I didn't quite understand DAWIV's first post completely either. I thought he meant that your FMIC made less HP than stock, but I knew that wasn't the case. He does have a very valid point though, and I think his comments are interesting. Any idea why Import Racer's MSP gained, while Turbo's MSP lost HP due to the flash? I'm personally a torque man, but I was just wondering what you think the factors might be for that to happen. I'm still planning on someday purchasing a FMIC from you, and 3 HP peak loss certainly isn't going to sway me, but why do you think Turbo's car lost HP post-flash?

DAWIV - you can see the differences immediately, as the Import Racer's MSP had a catless down-pipe, cat-back, FMIC and CAI. Turbo Mag's car only had our FMIC & CAI running @ stock boost. In their recent issue, they added a Profec B, however they didn't up the boost yet. This was done to provide a baseline.

In regards to the ECU, we're working on several different avenues. We're trying to find a Piggyback for the more general user, while working with LINK for a full ECU replacement.

Mach 3.5 Turbo - the reason why the Turbo Mag MSP lost peak power w/ the flash is that the car is still equipped (at the time of the issue) with the stock exhaust system. There'll be an issue coming up shortly with our full turbo-back exhaust on there, and that'll change things completely. (both @ stock boost and higher boost levels).

Oh, ok. So comparing the gains between Import Racer's car and Turbo's car isn't really fair since they don't have the same mods. Cool, I'll be looking forward to reading that upcoming issue. Quick question while I'm here: I noticed that someone had wrapped their Ion downpipe with that exhaust tape stuff when they installed it. I know it keeps more heat in the exhaust pipe, which flows better then, but does it heat up the turbo itself any more than usual? Would this be damaging to the turbo?

Also, LINK is a great company, if it's the same company I'm thinking of, we use their products at work and they're fantastic. High quality and good customer service. Any idea on timeframe (loose loose estimate) for a piggyback?

Mach 3.5 Turbo - actually they didn't wrap the 1-piece down-pipe, they wrapped the turbo manifold. The last batch of systems, they had the optional 1700F+ ceramic coating, so if you were to wrap that, it'd bake the coating off. We prefer to use high temp ceramic coating over thermo-wrap for several reasons, one of them being it doesn't get in the way. But more importantly, it won't have different surface temps (ceramic coating) vs. wrapping.

LINK Electro-systems (out of NZ) is the company we're working with. We use their systems as well as some others on our Subaru applications.

As for the piggyback, we want to make sure the parameters will be able to be stored for shipping as well as relatively flexible enough for a wide variety of altitudes etc.
