Is this pricey for a Speed6? Gotta sell...

2006 MazdaSpeed6 GT
Well folks, it's been fun. Unfortunately, a confluence of factors have resulted in my putting the Speed6 up on LeaseTrader (and in the Buy/Sell here on the Mazda Forums).

Birth of new son meant buying a wagon for the family trips (amazing all the stuff you need when traveling with a baby, dog, wife & stepson). Also, since the stepson just got his license last month and is now driving, the insurance premiums on all cars, especially the Speed6, just skyrocketed. I told the insurance company there is no way in hell the 17 year old would be driving the Speed6 (and he's not the type to take it for a joyride when I'm not around, and he doesn't know how to drive a 6-speed), but they are, of course, having none of that.

I've had it up on LeaseTrader for a couple days and getting lots of hits, but no one seems to be biting. Could it be the price? $409 a month, or ~$21K payoff... I put a lot down on the car, didn't get as good a deal as many here did (paid $28K for it). It has 23K miles on it, is in excellent shape... I thought that was a pretty good deal.

Think I'll have to offer some incentives or eat some of the payoff? Might be worth it to get into something cheaper to insure... Hmmm....

Well sorry to hear of your upcoming loss. Seriously sounds like you need to look at switching your insurance company though. That sounds ridiculous.

It's a GT. All options I think except for the Nav unit.

As for the insurance, I have USAA, which is generally regarded as one of the best. I could lower the coverage amounts, but I don't know if I'd feel comfortable doing that. USAA has been pretty competitive anytime I've gotten quotes elsewhere, but more importantly they have never given me one problem when I've had a claim in the past.

I had a VW Jetta stolen maybe ten years ago or so, and I had a check 30 days after it was stolen. About a week after that, a wrecking yard called me to say they had found my car. All the windows were smashed, ignition hadn't been tampered with. I think some things were missing from the engine compartment. The guy said they found it in a bad area, and if he didn't know better, he would have thought I had just abandoned it, was just trying to get a new car because it looked like it had just been sitting for a while, and someone just decided to smash the windows after they got sick of looking at it.

I always wondered what happened to the car (it must have been flatbedded away -- perhaps someone found a better car on the way home and just dumped it), and I admit it looked VERY suspicious, but USAA never questioned me about it, just asked me to get them in touch with the wrecking yard. Never heard anything about it after that.

I know if I got in an accident, USAA would be right there, no questions asked. That's why I stay with them, even when they don't want to believe me that the kid won't drive my Speed6. I said I'd even sign something completely relieving them of any responsibility should he drive the car. They said they couldn't do that. :)

It was worth a try.

i think if you put it up for 19-20, it would sell right away. you just need to be patient to get the most out of it.

I guess if it doesn't sell the next 3-4 months, it will be down to $20K (after 3-4 more payments). :)

Part of your problem is its model year closeout. Factor in that the Speed6 wasnt a huge hit and dealers/mfg is willing to negotiate on whats on the lot. A new 07 Speed6 Sport is $23500 right off the bat with incentives. A 07 Speed6 GT woyld be in the $25k range.
Someone looking on buying one would have reservations on getting a used car with 23k miles on it for $21k when a new one with no miles and full warranty can be had for a few thousand more.... You may want to factor that in and reduce the price to make it more attractive to buyers...

Good luck with the sale
