The car has a j-pipe back 3" exhaust, but stock s and j pipes.

Just curious but have you entertained the idea of a much smaller turbolife fmic setup? IE smaller core but same routing?
The stock ECU actually does a pretty good job handling mods. Rich yes...but maintains safety. I know a few guys running several mods, a larger turbo, and higher boost on a stock block and stock ECU. I was one of them for a while.
Yes, you are absolutely correct.
Personally, I don't fear blowing up a motor from running too lean on a stock ECU, as you said it runs rich...I just hate leaving power on the table...
As of now, I have not. The main issue with that is where the piping runs in relation to where the stock bumper support bar sits.
