Intercooler Advice

Midpipe being the j-pipe? Thanks again turbolife for the great info. Sigh! So many mods so little money. I've only had my MSP since Oct. so I've got a lot of catching up to do.

The car has a j-pipe back 3" exhaust, but stock s and j pipes.
Dave

Some mid pipes include the j-pipe, some don't. IIRC, my SLS bolted to the S-pipe, so it replaced the J pipe.

Like such (top one) - http://www.protegegarage.com/popup_image.php?pID=1363

I am not sure how much restriction the J pipe offers (i.e. - is it worth your time to replace it).

If it already has a 3" exhaust on it (catted?), I'd look towards fuel control and/or an IC next....

Just curious but have you entertained the idea of a much smaller turbolife fmic setup? IE smaller core but same routing?

As of now, I have not. The main issue with that is where the piping runs in relation to where the stock bumper support bar sits.

The stock ECU actually does a pretty good job handling mods. Rich yes...but maintains safety. I know a few guys running several mods, a larger turbo, and higher boost on a stock block and stock ECU. I was one of them for a while.

Yes, you are absolutely correct.

Personally, I don't fear blowing up a motor from running too lean on a stock ECU, as you said it runs rich...I just hate leaving power on the table...

I couldn't agree more.
It's just nice to know that EMS doesn't need to be the first thing you get. You can build up to it, and feel safe that the stock ECU is actually keeping up.
