Ok.....so I have noticed that my car smokes sitting at idle for more than like 30 sec to 1 min.......I decided it was time to put it back to stock to take in to the dealership....which is just a PG TIP/SRI removal. Well now it runs perfect with no smoke with the stock inlet and airbox. Would or could this cause a smoking turbo?

Yes, you have modified your engine. The balance and initial tune of the car are no longer valid once you have done this. I don't feel like getting into technical jargon, so simple put your modifications would have caused this. Once I installed my PG TIP/STI and BPV I found oil in my intake and intercooler a bit later. I would have had the same issue had I installed any other aftermarket Intake and TIP. You would at some point have had this issue without the modification more than not as the smoking turbo for the MS6 is a well known issue for stock and modified cars. All the dealership will tell you to do is start using 5w-40 oil. That is something to start with, then look into an OCC. If you have a Cobb AP, you can increase your idle as well to aid in preventing this issue.
Well I did put in 5w-40 and it smoked just as bad.....I just find it strange that just opening up the inlet would cause the smoking.....I guess its not weird in the fact that it changes the tune yes.....but to leak oil past the turbo seals......you would think opening up the intake would actually help the issue with there being less of a vacuum on the intake side of the turbo and putting more pressure on the exhaust side preventing the oil seepage.....but I dunno I guess I am not super technical when it comes to turbo cars....it is my first one....by reading others mods....nobody seemed to have an issue until the exhaust side was modified...but if this is the case I may just sell my TIP/SRI until there is a fix for the turbo seal issue....or just hang on to them.....I don't remember smoke with just the SRI....until I put the TIP on....so maybe ill just put the SRI on and see if that smokes.
if it is still under warranty they will replace the turbo seal.
the smoking issue is NOT specific to putting intake or inlet on the car.
changing the tune can help promote the issue, but stock MS6s had reported this problem quite a lot in the past. It is tru, exhaust side of the turbo like dp help promote this problem moreso, but this is actually indicitive of an already bad turbo seal.
after going stock, and not smoking NOW. i most certaiinly guarantee under stock conditions your car will end up smoking again in the near future. It is just a matter of time. I highly suggest trying to get it changed under warrantee... this was a problem off the line along with faulty turbos; mazda had replaced many/most of such issues under warranty in the year of the car's release.

Don't just toss your mods man. There are several work arounds for this condition as it is common for our cars. Mazda recommended the 5w-40 oil. Cobb took the TSB and came up with a fix using an OCC inline with the PCV. There is also the PTP pill, and if by chance you own or are planning to buy a Cobb AP you can up your idle which is said to help with the issue. Currently, I have switched to 5w-40, and will be installing the OCC as I have the same issue you have. The SRI and TIP didn't cause it. Just remember you car was tuned to it's stock condition. Only expecting positive results from modding it is unrealistic. Every change you make will have side effects, tuning helps to reign them in. The Cobb AP is a great device to aid in tuning on your own, but still doesn't beat a Pro Tune. Enjoy your car, and if all else get back to stock and hit the dealership. They will replace your turbo, especially if you have switched to 5w-40 and it's still smoking.
what you need is more crankcase vacuum. that is the issue. when you lower vacuum on the crankcase you lessen the pull of oil from the turbo back in to the oil pan so it starts to back up and leak past the seals. 5w40 works for the most part because it is heavier and won't pass through the seals as easier. another good method is to increase your idle rpm because this will increase the vacuum the crankcase sees at idle as well. if your car is smoking at idle try hitting the throttle slightly to raise idle to around 950-1000 and eventually it should stop smoking.

Yeah it just all seems silly.....I just wanted a little extra power from the SRI/TIP and now I can't run that without leaking unless I buy another OCC and the Cobb AP....that is another $600-$800 I didn't want to shell out. I could still enjoy the car in stock form, but it's nice to hear the turbo and get the added power from the simple SRI/TIP. I have been stock all week and haven't smelled a drop of oil or seen any smoking at idle. I am still going to try to just add the SRI and see if it's the addition of the TIP that is changing the dynamics for smoking.
