IC Pipe Replaced by dealer............NOW Whistling noise from turbo! WTF???

ok boys and girls.........Dr.Sound is here again to ask you all WTF is going on.

i have started a thread a couple of weeks back about a cracked IC pipe.......the one from turbo to intercooler. The crack was at the junction of IC pipe and BPV.

today the dealer replaced the pipe...........when i drove off the lot i can her a loud whistle when turbo spools up.
it's not a shreek or screech that turbos get from oil starvation, its just a loud whistle.

basically there are two places where it can leak...........at turbo connector or the intercooler connector.

by the sound of it it seems that it's the turbo one. Now the car holds 6, 6.5 psi...........it seems to pull as well as before, BUT THE GODDAMN NOISE!!!

is it that the pipes is new and hadn't set in properly yet?
what else can it be?

Turbo's are supposed to whistle a little bit!I don't see it as a prob but you could have leak on that pipe.This is what I would do if you are worrid about it leaking.
1.get yourself a very short stubby flat head screwdriver and make sure the top clamp to the pipe at the I/C is tight.It is a tight fit betewwen the airbox and clamp head.If you pull down and to the right easily on the piece that says Callaway on it,it will move slightly out of your way for better access.
2.Get a 5/16 nut driver (or use the screw driver ,it will work too)and look down at the turbo outlet and locate the clamp.It will be kinda a pain too because its angled by the fan and make sure that connection is properly seated and tight.
If these are both OK ,and you are holding the proper boost then there might have been a problem before that you didn't know was there.
IMO,turbo whine(or whistle)is super cool if it isn't overkill.
I love to pull up next to semi's on the highway with their windows down and spool up the turbo for them to hear!
They look down and over like WTF!:wtf:

i drove the car arround this whole day.......the sound is like a 1.8t GTi or A4 audi, but about 2 times louder. I have driven other mazdaspeeds and none of them sound like that.........even with the intake on. And it's not turbo whine. I still get turbo whine arround 5K. This sound is air.......starts arround 2500rpm when turbo spools.

could the problem be with the ballbearings???

i really like the sound myself, it just wasnt there before........that's why i'm conserned.

I will try tightening the clamp when the car cools off.........

BTW...could it be the bypass valve??? maybe it's leaking?

s***, any little sound in my car worries the hell out of me.

oh, and i went back to the dealeship and they guy who put the pipe on (he was actually pretty knowledgeble) told me that it might just be the clamp........told me to tighten it after car cools off......but said if the sound stays, bring it back on monday and he will check all the hoses and pipes for leaks. The car would have to stay there all day.........but i'll get a Mazda 6 as a loaner

well the whistlin' is normal, though i only get it when i really drive the car hard, but thats because i like to save gas and granny shift at 3k!

I feel you Dr. Sound. My MSP is doing the same thing. It always kinda wined a little bit, but now the b**** whistles like a little bird. I am gunna take it to dealer Monday...Later,

Well first off we CAN"T really tell whats wrong cause we can't hear it our selves so you will probably get 3 differnet answers for 3 different types of whistling.....
Just letting you know.......
If you could post a Sound clip of it it would help out alot....

the sound got quiter, i've been tightening the clamp every time the car cools off.........it's still there, but less.

hey geezer, if u know what a turbo car sounds like then u know what i'm talking about, it's spool whistle, there only one kind, all turbos have it.......some more, some less. My car had it very quietly, now it's loud.

now it sounds like a 1.8 GTI, i got thumbs up from a guy in 350Z today

sound clip wont work cause when the windows are closed u can barely hear it..........if i open the windows, then the wind against the mike will drownd out everything else.

mine is pretty loud. i rarely ever take it past 3k too.
