make it look pretty i guess, it is hidious rust, my car has been sitting for 6 months due to a suspended license....got it back tuesday , by the way what in the hell is a A/c clutch?

I am pretty sure on the msp the air conditioning compressor is belt driven and it has a clutch too, so that it doesn't sap power while its off. I have had a car with similar problems to what you describing and after having the a/c clutch replaced it went away.

Detonation is in no way squeling and it would never happen at idle.
What work was done to the car and why? what was the result as far as the squelling?
Can you better describe the squelling?

saturn had a recall on some of its coupes years back, when you honked the horn there was an elec short and the engine caught on fire

What the hell does that have to do with anything?

haha saturns suck! The squealing only happens when the ac is turned on at idle

DO you have any idle problems? Like any stalls or RPM droops REALLY low sometimes?

i figured id make him feel better for having a mazdaspeed by pointing out that it could be worse, you could be just honking your horn and boom!

Hey MoJoeTCM, if you are near Atlanta or in Atlanta go to Jim Ellis Mazda in Marietta. That's where I bought mine before I moved and the service tech is really cool. They got the rust off my rotors without asking any questions.

The tech also said that I SHOULD mod my car. I asked him about it voiding the warranty and he just told me to bring it back if I had any problems and they would take a look at it as long as I didnt do anything stupid........

That was back in June but if Patrick (I think that was his name) is still there talk to him....

On the topic of bad idling...I noticed the other day when I was letting my turbo cool down that the damn engine almost stalled twice and both times it let out a small pop, not loud, but definitely detonation!

I am going to skip the service manager and just straight out call the owner of the dealership. Yea, it may not be a viper, but 21k for a protege....you get the picture!

I know I'm a little late on this, but my car faintly squeaks at idle with the AC on also. It sounds like a belt squeaking or something.

Squealing - If it's not the a/c compressor clutch (electric clutch that engages/disengages the a/c compressor), than it is belt tension....belts will not only squeal if they are too loose, but they will also squeal if they are too tight...just another thing to check out.
