I *&( Hate Other Drivers!!!!

Change the title if you like. I don't have the privledges to do so.

FMW had lots of positive reviews posted in their waiting room. They obviously cater to BMW and Mercedes but everyone I spoke with knew exactly what the Mazdaspeed6 was (always a good sign). I walked around the entire car with the advisor and we discussed how the car was brand new. He assured me it would look "brand new" again when they were done with it.
i didn't mean to sound like a dick. i was just wondering. sorry bro. for your loss too.

I also contacted OnlineMazdaParts and they said Mazda doesn't offer pre-painted parts. So my bumper will have to be painted and that is why I may just ask them to buff out the trunk to prevent further mis-matched paint.

I'm sorry to hear about it. I konw how you feel, as I mentioned over the winter I had to have the drivers side sanded, painted and buffed when someone took a shopping cart down the side. I will say that a good body shop can match the paint perfectly, but it takes work and they have to paint a large area. For a small scratch on the rear door they had to remove all the molding on both doors and pint both doors and the rear panel.

I would just make sure that the body shop knows the work involved to match our paint and they are willing to fight for you to get it done right. Good Luck, I'm sure it will turn out just like new for you.

Like I mentioned, I worked with them. It was an interesting experience sitting in a board room full of Presidents and VPs of a dealership that size. I know they'll take good care of you.

chris good luck with the car, i'm sure they'll do a great job...are you going to have thenm fix the trunk?? it's a new car, you really should have them do it right? they'll be able to color match it

They're going to look at the trunk and everything under the bumper and get back to me. They said that usually the insurance estimate isn't sufficient since they low-ball everything to begin with.

the other thing is they can't see all the damage without taking things apart...there always seems to be "underling" problems to be fixed

And the insurance estimate doesn't include all the bolts/nuts/clips. They just look at the car and say "ah yes that looks broken"

The adjustment did include clips and stuff, as well as "special paint". Hmm, I haven't heard from FMW yet. I should give them a call in an hour or so to see if they looked at my car yet.

I just got off the phone with Nick at FMW. He had the adjuster from my insurance company over this morning and managed to rack up another $2,000 onto the estimate, thus tripling the cost of the repair.

+ bumper reinforcement bar
+ additional hardware clips
+ strip, repair, and repaint trunk
+ replace bumper guard assemblies (near exhaust pipes)
+ new emblems for trunk
+ new trim piece for trunk
+ additional prep/paint/buff time

The best part of my conversation were the things Nick had to say about my car. This is a guy that works with Bimmers and Mercs all day in addition to the usual Hondas and Toyotas and occasional domestic. He was very impressed with the speed6 and couldn't believe it was a Mazda. He said he used to have an RX7 back in the 80's and thought the MS6 was like packaging up the sportiness of the 7 into a family friendly practical car...something his wife might actually let him buy. :)

I miss it already. Someone smoked in my PT Cruiser and the smell is getting to me. I might call Enterprise and request another vehicle.

Don't even call, just show up and get a new car. I did that with the G5 when it was riding on a bent and going flat donut with a shredded tire sitting in the trunk. 7k miles in Rochester was much more than that 2007 car could handle!

If I call, they should come bring me the car. I actually don't even know where the closest office is and chances are they won't be open when I get out of work. They met me at FMW.

Oh wait, I've got a business card...11 Blandin Ave Framingham. Nah, I'd rather call them.

They won't bring you the car, rather they'll probably come get you in a car, bring you there, make you sign the new contract for the new car, then wait around for a while, then give you the new car. You would think they'd bring the paperwork to you but at least around here, enterprise isn't too smart :P

I'm surprised that FMW doesn't think it's enough to PDR out the trunk to be straight and then buff it out. Then again if they perfectly match it, then I guess you get a swirl-free trunk out of it!

Remember that you can't, must not wax the repainted parts for 90 days! (sometimes even 120) Double-check with the bodyshop, but they will give you a timeframe like that. Read explanation here.

They are the experts in terms of PDR. I asked and he said they want it looking perfect so that will require a full repair.

I am aware of the no-wax rule. Can I run the car through a touchless wash though?

Well they brought the car to me at FMW and had me sign everything there. Then the guy called the office to have someone pick him up. If I think of it tomorrow morning I'll call them on my way to work and see what they say.

The body shop I dealt with said it was no issue, as they cure the painted pieces at the temperatures the factory uses in their PPG paint booth. So I guess it depends on whether the body bakes the stuff or not?

Dear diary......hehe. Glad to hear things are working out.

IIRC the Velocity Red Mica paint is more than just paint and clear, I think there is a pearl coat in there too to give it that sheen.

Hmm, see this post. What is the "factory temperature" that the shop used? Still, I would play it safe and not wax for 30 days.
