Rear fill is required by several competition organizations but it can have some useful purposes. Becuase our rear deck is so high the rear speakers can be used to rasie the over all sound stage. Of coarse they should be very quite and you should not be able to tell they are there. Many people wire the rear speakers in series and out of phase also to aid in the raising of the stage. Typicaly you don't wat anything in the rear playing highs or lows, just mids. A 5 1/4s or 4s without tweeters do nice. I would match them to your BAs for the best sound.

Where you thinking old or new W6?
Eclipse Aluminums are nice, they seem to be a favorite for compeditors from tweeter. The old JLW6s are more then a proven winner and the new ones seem as good but cost more then the eclipses.

For only a short time more, the original W6s will be available for only $149.

well if i do believe..not too sure..in the mazdaspeed...the speakers in the back are in the rear doors..and are 6" dunno what kind of impact that'll hold on the rear fill...

pretty sure of this cuz the subs in the grill with the amp. it's all being ripped out anyways...give me a few weeks after recieving the car.

i have experience with jl w0's and w6's. would prolly pick up an original w6..any idea where to find one for that price?
any suggestion for amplification for a single w6? thanks for your info..been more then helpful!

any authorized JL retailer should be able to get a W6 for that price but you need to be quick on that one.

300-500 watts rms is the power needed for a single 10W6. A great local installers favorite setup was 3 10W6s powered by a PG ZX600.

I forgot about that funky setup with the sub in the MSP. Rip that crap oput and use the rear deck. Rear doors are never going to help the stage.

Man, I've been out of competition for WAAYAYYYYY too long, and it's funny to see there's still debate on the whole "rear fill" thing.

1stMP3, you don't mean that sanctioning bodies require rear speakers, do you? Because there were a few times I judged cars that had fill w/o any speakers in the rear.

I also remember some old sound processors guys used to buy, spend hundreds of dollars on these things just to eq and delay rear midranges to create the effect of a live show. Ahhh, the good-ol days!!

The addition of the IASCA rules I saw required rear fill speakers.
FOr my personal use I use rears to raise the stage only and give them very little power.
