HKS BOV still sounds like gobble.

I installed a HKS SSQ BOV today. no stalling unless you REALLY tried to get it to stall (rev to 6k and throw to neutral), and even then it would hit 0 and bounce back up to normal

BUT there is a catch...

it still SOUNDS like the gobble gobble PLUS the slight 'whoosh' of the HKS.

im so glad i didnt buy it withouth testing it first, because the turkey is still there!

its the waste gate. you hear it more with a cone filter. i only hear the whistle of the hks with just the air box

i'd say it has to do with the positioning of the bov. it's in a weird place being half way on the return tube, so as it allows the air to be returned to the intake some of it will still pass over the hole in the intercooler piping as it is traveling back from the closed throttle body, and it will act like blowing over the top of a soda bottle. that is my theory on the turkey problem, so unless you change the location of the bov (like putting it right on an intercooler pipe like it should be) the turkey will remain.

ok lets see here... you guy's all have MSP's right? and you have the hks bov? what kind of ic piping do you have ? the reason im asking is because i have a MSP and i have the greddy type s that i havent put on yet cause i gotta get the piping fabricated

IC piping is stock. i did not need to get anything welded or made up.
i used a rubber hose to connect the HKS to the IC piping and then another hose with a metal stopper in it to the intake side.

i also have the injen, so i guess thats why the wastegate is loud. snowboy said the same thing, so we were gonna up the boost to 10 psi and see if it would make the sound any different but we ran out of time.

why would a wastegate be louder with an intake? the two parts are really unrelated, and all the wastegate is is a little flapper door that is either opened or closed, actuated by a spring in the wastegate actuator on the exhaust side. you would hear it when you achieve your maximum boost if you ever hear it, as that is when it opens to relieve the extra pressure. however, unless yours is dumped to the atmosphere, you aren't going to hear an internal wastegate. if i'm wrong, someone please explain to me how the internal wastegate makes a noise, especially when relating to an intake.
edit: does it not close all of the way when not at full boost and kinda swing open and closed?

did you guys tried the softer spring setting...???
If the springs is stiff enough, more pressure is needed to open the BOV.

that little flapper of the wastegate is what causing the flutter noise. the hks is a pull type its not supposed to flutter it either open or closes.

i have the adjusting bolt about 95% closed (loudest sound i could get out of the bov).

It is the best sounding BOV I have ever heard, I can always change the sound length and pitch just by shutting the throttle body at certian speeds and boost levels

i actually tried both ways: filtered and plugged. when it was plugged, the "msp stumble" was more noticeable. the filter helped smooth out the stumbling a bit, but it is still there.

you do not need the filter, you will be fine without it; i just was trying to compensate for the blown-off air from venting.

i have only driven about 80 miles with the bov installed so i will not call myself an expert or anything; anyways i hope this helps ya out .
