help with tires!

so one of my winter tires went flat checked it and seems to have three deep cut on the tread. so I've decided to get all four replaced since theyre pretty bad. the question is can I put a 225/40/r18 on the stock wheels? or can I put the oem size tire 215/45/r18 on a 8 inch wheel? reason is I plan on getting new wheels and putting the new tires on it. I also plan on lowering it a bit. thanks

If you're going to go with a 225 width tire on the stock wheels, a 45 series will fit better. People here have put a 225/40 on the stock wheels, but it isn't advisable, and the tire is quite a bit shorter than the stock 215/45. You can put the stock 215s on an 8 inch wide wheel, but it will be pretty stretched. I think recommended minimum for an 8 inch wheel is a 225.
