help with sputtering 01 protege 2.0

ok so my protege had an engine with 92000 miles on it it was sputtering i changed spark plugs, o2 sensors, coil packs, checked all my vacuum lines than finally my engine started having valve ticking than one day boom goes the piston while on the highway. so i put in a engine with 65000 miles on it used my new plug o2 sensors, coil packs, and had to use the pipe that goes from the exhaust manifold to the egr valve on the newer engine from my old one and well i start it up and getting sputtering again. can anyone give me an idea on what i need to do i cant find the problem
 
also the only thing the check engine light is coming up with is misfire so i am stumped on how to fix this.. i had obx headers if that may be the problem? not sure
 
what O2 sensor did you put in there from the OEM or a universal type?

also check your crank position and cam position sensors.
 
the cam sensor is on the passenger front side of the valve cover on the side. the crank sensor is on the front lower side of the crank pulley


also i dunno about those O2 sensors man, sometimes they work, most of the time you get more headaches. especially with a picky ECU... but don't worry about them right now since the problem started before you replaced them anyway.
 
well the sensors came already on the other engine so i couldnt see it being that.. do u think i may have fried my ecu i had a 4 wire o2 sensor that split and tried to change the connectors cuz it didnt fit ( didnt realise it was to my bottom o2 sensor and i was tryin to connect top ) there is a white a blue and 2 black wires and i think i got the black ones mixed up and maybe fried the ecu or pcm any ideas from there? cuz i think i eliminated alot of possibilities lol also i have 4-1 header and a muffler delete do u think i could not be getting enough back pressure for the egr valve ? idk.. just another idea
 
also with a magnaflow cat and my wideband afr gauge says im running hardcore lean so im scared to drive my car dont want to have to get another engine
 
ok well i guess the old plugs were gapped wrong .058 i guess and that was the problem except i still get a little bit of sputter here and there if i push the gas too much under 2k rpms any idea why that might be?
 
Havin the same sorta problem. CEL came on and the engine starts to sputter and stall when I come to a stop at a traffic light or park or come to a stop in general. HELP!
 
hope you got it, im a similar boat, and it seems many others are.......i havent found a solution yet
 
i had that problem sorta would stall coming to a light. i replaced the throttle body gasket and that stopped it.
 
I have a similar problem with my 02 DX w/2.0. Ramdom misfire so new crank sensor and coils. No change. Cam sensor next maybe? Anyone tell me how to test a cam sensor?
