help with my soon to be system (advice on sub/amp combo)

ok, soo, i need some opinions with my amp/sub combo. Im only gonna have one 12 inch kicker L7. i was thinking about using a Fosgate PUNCH 550S or 500s, im not sure. i already have the sub, my budget for amp is 200ish. I foung the 550s on ebay for about +200.

im also not sure if i should go with a sealed or ported box. Im gonna cutom make my own box, but thats another post. I just need some opinions from you gurus about what amp to go with. Im open to other companies n stuff but i already have the sub, soo no changing the sub.

thanks guys

oh, by the way, i just put components in the car. kenwood p603s. DONT FLAME ME for goin a little cheap on the components, i plan on upgrading em, i just needed something other than the stock speakers. theyre actually not that bad for the price. but again, thats for another post...

You want abotu 500 watts rms for that sub and there is nothing retail that will deliver that for $200. For internet sales the best you can probably get i the JBL 600.1. JBL ****** themselves over the net so they are very cheap.

I prefer subs sealed but they will be louder ported.

Yea dude, go sealed. You will sacrafice a little in overall effieciency/output, but it will be much cleaner/controlled sounding. Hell, i personally like smaller driver's, like 8's and 10's becuase I think they typically sound tighter. But, I don't like the real mushy boom like I used to when I was a little younger.

If you want an unbiased opinion then don't ask me about RF, there terrible, plain and simple. I'd by profile before RF.

hahah, hmmm, mixed crowd. Its ok though, i like various opinions. See, the thing is, i liked the "tight" and "clean" sounding bass too. I was originally planing on going with a JL AUdio 10w6v2. I mean you might be wondering why i only want one sub. well i dont need the crazy bass and also, weight is always an issue with the p5. But the thing is, i got the sub brand new for 125. My friend got em but he sorta is in jail now and needs money for a lawyer. I mean, despite that (which sucks), i got the sub and soo, i just sorta wanna work with my options. some might say to ebay it (and i am very into the ebay thingy), buuut i decided i just want to keep it.

Soo, im sorta at like a wierd point. Im just trying to figure out a good line of amps to go with. If price is around 300, what would you guys suggest? need like 400-500 watts rms (one channel). I really dont want to go with JBL or Audiobahn or anything, i was looking at PPIs, RF Punch, aand thats it so far, heh

thanks again

Houston, We have a problem!
The Kicker L7 is the least tight and clean bass sub in the world. It is a SPL sub. I have yet to hear one provide anywhere near the SQ or tight bass of a 10Wanything.

Oh, so Circuit City Brands are out of the question but Best Buy Brands are A.O.K.?

Unless your going with RF POWER series amp then the JBLs are by far RFs superior. THey are compleat Garbage! They sound like ass, have horrible damping factors, and there power is nothing special. You may want to try the kicker 600.1.
