My sons 2003 Protege5 has just been an electrical nightmare for the last year. All started with a bad alternator (which has been replaced twice now). After second time alternator was replaced, radio stopped working and and alarm is all messed up, meaning the alarm always goes off when you open and close the doors. Though a pain in the butt, I finally had him pull the horn fuse so at least it doesn't honk anymore. You can't start the car without holding in the little black button under the dash. The key fob doesn't unlock the doors anymore nor disarm the alarm(Just put a new battery in Fob).
Now the car doesn't even turn over(ie starter doesn't engage) and I think it's alarm related. Could it be alarm related? How in the heck to I completely remove the damn alarm? I've found a link that gave a simple set of "unplug three connectors, here and there, plug this into that... but the only thing I could find in common under the dash was the 3 connectors that went into the alarm box and nothing else made sense and/or matched up to the instructions.
Also, in chasing down a completely different problem, but I think might be related to the alarm(and might be the root of all alarm related issues I'm having) I had pulled the drivers door card and there were two wires in a green sleeve running to the door latch module that were just hanging there like they were pulled out somehow. I can see where another set of four wires coming from a different black sleeve are going into the module, but not where the two wire/green sleeve would go in(if it does) I believe the alarm is somehow connected to the door module? If these wires were severed, would this be causing my alarm and key fob issues? I can't see where these wires go into the module as there is no evidence of two wires hanging out of the lock module.
