Head and cam question...

twodays - have you figured out your problem? I'm looking at buying a 626 to swap the engine into my car and want to make sure its the right choice.

the problem he's having is nothing to do with it being a 626 engine as i have done the exact swap and it works great. he most likely installed something wrong or has a bad part somewhere

havent figured it out yet havent had alot of time, the main thing for the 626 swap is change cam gears! if it wasnt for people on here i never would have figured it out! thanks again everyone

ok just finished my 2002 626 motor swap got it all done new starter and it wont idle past 2k rpm.

runs like crap, fuel all in cylinder 1, tried different sensors those didnt change a thing.

i heard the 2000 to 2002 626 cams are the same so i didnt bother swapping them. should i try swapping them using my original cmp and cnk sensors? im really frustrated right now and dont really know where to start, guess ill redo the timing, and swap the cams and gear over and see if that does the trick.

Did you swap the cam gears to the protege ones? I am not sure if the sensor is the same. How about swapping fuel injectors?

i kept everything off my original motor, all the sensors and everything except the cylinder head because they "should" be the same, if they arent i will swap the gears and do the timing, at this point that would be a cakewalk.

has anyone else done this swap? should i transfer over my crank pulley too? just want to make sure before i do anything.

ok when doing the 626 motor swap you need to swap the cam gears, i also swapped the crank pulley and all the other general items needed. please everybody WRITE THIS DOWN, STICKY OR SOMETHING BUT IT MUST BE DONE!!!!!!!!

Glad to hear that you got it running. Is swapping the crank pulley a must or was that just extra?

i honestly am not sure, what I can say is that the marks on the crankshaft pulley are different, the notches in the pulley are in separate areas, I would do it to be safe so you dont have to take the belts off again. SAVE A STEP lol
