Hawaii: Powder Coating Anybody?

Just thought I'd put this out there in case anyone else is interested. A few of us were talking yesterday at the BBQ about getting parts powder coated. Turns out there are a few of us who will be needing to get multiple parts coated around the same time. So our thinking is that we might be able to get a better price as a group than as individuals.

As of right now this is very tenative. Not set time and more than likely no set location. Anyone who has seen Wendy's car has seen Sunset Powder Coating's work. It looks good. So, as of right now that's who we are thinking of going with.

Anyhow, if anyone is interested let us know. We're looking at getting it done sometime in April.

Thanks,

Lang

ok who is interested??? my ride is going in for warranty work soon so I will be going back to stock and this will be the time that I will be getting my pipes coated and was wondering if anyone wants to go down with me... just let me know. -mike

LANG! or anyone! haha
can u powder coat it crome/polished silver or something?
just wondering
and will i have to presand all the parts so bare metal is showing?
thanks
chris

Chris,

Yes, I believe you can. But I could be completely off on that. Since it is current being sent through the metal that causes the powder to adhere to the surface and then it is coated I would think a smoother surface would be better. But as I said, I'm no expert. Someone with more experience, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

I know it's kinda late to reply to this, actually.....VERY late, but what shop is this you guys are talking about? I got a friend who wants to powder coat his silver rims to gunmetal, and wants to find a place. And how much would it cost to powdercoat some 16"s? And Mike, did you go through with this? If so, how'd it come out?

nope, I sold my pipes and got myself a bling-bling FMIC as you can see in my sig (bling) I changed my original engine theme of dark, over to the bling factor... I dont think anyone did powdercoating yet so you are still in time because I know they are still gonna do it. -mike

I think I'm gonna be taking my stuff to Sunset Powder Coating. They're the ones who did the work on Wendy's car. Looks pretty good and they weren't too pricey.

hmm any idea when ull be doing this?

i have some parts i would like to do, but not anxious to do it... if that makes sense ahha

As for prep, I think powder coating can fill most small scratches and abrasions. But, I don't know how much other prep work would be needed. Definitely the less they need to do to the product when they recieve it the cheaper it will be.
