Got rid of the Protege5...

Well, it is official... Just got rid of the Protege5. :(

After all of the transmission issues, the dealership called Mazda and since I was having intermittent issues, they could not replace any parts on the car. The dealership's and Mazda's response was "Drive it until the problem is more consistent." Personally, I think that is a very bad response to a customer who has only had the vehicle for only 8 months, and it has spent time in the shop twice for the same thing.

On a lighter note...

I traded it in on a 2003 Mazda 6S fully loaded except for the Sport Package so I could get the 1.9% APR and the $1000 "Customer Loyalty" for trading the MP5 in on it. Sticker Price was $26,000. After the "Customer Loyalty" $1000, the College Graduate $500, and the S-Plan Discount of $2500, the end price was only $22,000.

Highlights Include:
Sepang Green Metallic
220HP 3.0 Liter V6
5 Speed Sportmatic
Traction Control
ABS
Leather
Fog Lamps (Not the Integrated Ones)
Bose w/ Indash 6-Disc Changer

I will post pics soon...

Also, my user name will changing to Mazdaspeed6S

Congratulations!!! How much longer are the loyalty and s-plan rebates good for? I've only had my P5 for two months but if I could take advantage of those rebates, I might have to get a 6.

sorry to hear you got rid of the p5, but congrats on the mazda 6 purchase. at least it faster than the p5...........:)

cool deal, a worthy upgrade. I test drove one of those but went P5 instead. Hopefully the Mazda6 sports transmission will work better for you than the p5. Although, aren't they the same?

No.

But in the end, you still got F@cked over being upside-down on your P5, didn't you? What kind of trade-in did you get?

I don't know about Loyalty rebate. The S-Plan Pricing is the discount I get for working at a Tier-1 Ford Motor Company Provider. :) If you work for Mazda or for a company that is a Partner with Ford, then the S-Plan is indefinite.

I bought the P5 for $16,000 in October 2002. The dealership gave me $12,500. After all the payments I made, I only ended up being $300 dollars upside-down. But my APR on the Protege5 was 7.9% for 60 months, and the APR on the 6 is 1.9% for 60 months. So I am actually coming out ahead in the long run. So, I don't feel completely stuck in ass over it. :)

Awesome, thanks for being so thorough. I guess I thought that the general "concept" of the sportsmatic tranmission within a manufacturer would be one in the same or at least similar. Enough to where a problem for one class (p5) could be found, potentially, in another class (6).

Whatever the case... enjoy the upgrade. I know your initial thread regarding your transmission woes have made me careful with my new investment from the start.

do you have lemon laws in your state? could have waited untill it broke down the 3rd time and got ALL your money back. but as long as you come out ahead, you are good.

If they said that there should be more trouble with the car...I would have made more trouble and towed it to them the next morning :-). Congrats on the new car.

That was my whole problem... They could never find anything wrong, so no Lemon Law could be exercised! That's what sucked about the whole situation...
