fan?

Hi guys,

there's something I wonder about my P5.

when I start the car and let it idle, there's some kind of a fan that start each 30 sec. (i think) the sound of the fan stay for 5 sec and go off....and come back after 30 sec... on 5 sec, off 30 sec, on 5 sec....

here's my question... why?:p

mine does the same thing, only if i have the a/c, defrost, or floor mode on. the best i can figure it's the aux. fan cutting in. this is normal for those modes from what i understand because with the a/c system engaged it overrides the temp relay for the aux and cuts it on all the time for extra cooling from the heat build up.

You're not hearing the radiator fan are you? cause that will cycle on and off depending on how warm the car gets.

possibly, but I never noticed a fan wich will go on and off like that... I'm going to check that out.

btw, I can only hear the fan when I'm outside off the car... in inisde, I can barely hear it goes on and off..

wow! I just posted the same thing last night about my msp... at least I know I'm not the only one who noticed it :)

going to take a look tomorrow...

but why there's thing wich is "kicking on and off"^

Bet it's the A/C compressor cycling on and off. I don't own a P5 yet so I can't say for sure, but usually radiatior fan(s) come on in sync with the compressor.

That is correct.

If you switch your air selection to "vent" you shouldn't hear it.

I believe this happens when you have a/c on or defrost or floor/defrost selected.

Just putting it on vent wont work... mine will go on and off ALL the time, every minute or less... its like an overactive radiator fan... Im not sure why it goes on and off so much? but you arent alone..oh and I have a sedan..
