I have a 2005 Mazda 5 Sport.
Recently the engine has been cutting out. A quick check with a mechanic showed that the engine was out of oil. This seemed to cure the problem but my question is why did the oil warning light not come on?
Most cars ive owned the Low oil light only came on after it was too late. The oil change place forgot to tighten my oil drain plug on my Kia, and it fell out. And the Oil light didnt come on till after it was already out of oil, and knocking. They always say to not depend on the oil light for this exact reason.
More like Improperly taken care of engines burn oil. But if there taken care of, then its alot less likely. Ive owned a 89 probe (Made by Mazda at a mazda plant) that i had till 297k miles that never had a single internal engine issue and didnt burn a drip of oil. I sold the car to a friend 3 years ago, and last year he sold it to his dad and is still going strong.
I'd check oil on cars at least every couple of weeks, especially if it has more than 80,000 kms/50,000 miles on it. The oil light only comes on with lack of oil pressure, not lack of oil.
