Check all your door switches including the hatch. The dome light doesn't shut off immediately. It's on a timer and also waits for the engine to run before dimming to off.
Yea,.. that's the one,... It's controlled by a special circuit. It should turn off a few seconds after you start the car. Otherwise it waits for a few minutes. Even if the door is left open the light is supposed to shut off after 5 or 10 minutes. It doesn't simply shut off when you close the door,... it waits for you to find the ignition and get it started.
If it simply never shuts off in door position you may have fried your IC that controls it.
pcb, can you tell me more about this special circuit controlling the cabin/dome light? I'm trying to figure out what happened with mine as the door triggers/ignition stopped triggering the cabin/dome light and it happened while driving.
I don't know too much more about it,... I do know that the circuit itself is located in the instrument cluster. Check all your trigger switches,... make sure your door switch is working. There make be a switch on the ignition key itself or it may get it's signal from the tach or something ??
What happened to yours ??? Did it not shut off ???
If you look at the P5_WIRE.PDF in the (service directory), PDF Page 52, Manual Page 48 Mazda Protege5 Service and Parts manuals the cargo compartment circuit shows a dotted line around the circuit which is connected to the KEYLESS CONTROL MODULE.
