Just wondering,

Does the Tech have to go under the hood to do the ECU Flash?
I don't feel like removing the MBC that is well hidden behide the battery. You really have to search for it to find it.

no, the hook up is just under the steering column

are you sure? Just curious because i have mad visible aftermarket work done to the engine.

I wouldn't risk it...they could notice the vacum lines or something might be altered..

well, i already took my car into a dealership here in MI and they know i have mods, so they denied me warranty work, so maybe i can go back there because they already know. They didnt write down that i had mods though, luckily for me.

Well it's total bulls*** when it comes to a TSB type of job. If you blow the motor and it was your mods that did it ok but if you see the TSB's for the car and you pull in to have the clunk addressed and you haven't done a thing to your suspension then they are required to do it. Or flash your ECU etc.

Your TECH SOULD pop the hood if he is following the proper procedure. They always do a check of everthing when you bring your car in to prevent any problems that you may have not noticed.I'm sure that Mazda has a preventative maintenencce checklist for all the techs to fill out on every car through the door whether it be a MPV or a MSP.
My .02 cents
Matt:)

for what it's worth, even though the hookup is under the dashboard, I got compliments on the underhood engine dress-up I had done on my car when I went to pick it up after dropping it off for the flash.

No major mods for me yet so I didn't have anything to worry about, but next time around, it will likely be a different story.

Yes

The tech popped my hood to unplug a few relays (cooling fan and another I can't remember) so they wouldn't drain my battery, key is in the on position while they do it.

Lodvigo - I also live in Cincinnati but I bought my car at King's Mazda and they said they didn't have the flash. Do you think I can still go to Jake Sweeney and I can get it? Also I have a turbo timer would the guys there care about that? Thanks.

wow you guys need to realize you CAN NOT be denied warranty work unless the modification is a direct result of the problem being repaired, and then you are only denied warranty on the modified part. You need to tell the tech to shut his ******* mouth and work on the damn car.

^
LOL..yeah I'd like to tell them to shut the **** up but I'm too nice sometimes..its usually the service managers that are asses, the tech is actually cool..

My dealership tried to void my warrenty and when I told them to prove it and that if they want to void my warrenty I'd call an attorney. Instead of submitting the claim to Mazda they paid for it "out of there own pocket" so to speak to keep me happy. Over small things a dealership is not going to want to fight you or Mazda just stand your ground. Just so you know I was very mature about it and very professional, since then the dealership has been very nice to me and has not given me any problems what so ever. When I brought up word about the flash they didn't even know about it and were extremely happy for the information, they did some research and if I want it I can get it on tuesday, but gonna hold off for a while.

What did they see that made them want to void your warranty?

I find this hard to understand ,It seems that many of you in the States have major problems with getting dealerships to work on your cars ,warrenty or not ,if you have done any mods at all. It seems that the dealerships don't want your money just because you modded your car ,I say so what money is money .
I live in Canada and the dealership is always willing to help me . Example ,I went to change my rear mount to the AWR mount But due to time (they were busy) they couldn't putit in . I did the change that weekend ,however I knocked on the sensors off and the car ran link a piece of s*** ,I had a CEL ,they fixed it no questions . I have had other stuff done as well .I have known most of the guys at the dealership for 15-20 years ,this may have something to due with the service I get ,that and the fact I have help sell 8 cars .

I think some of it has to do with the MSP itself and some of the demographic that the car attracts..dealers think everyone is a punk ass street racer or something...

Just wanted to say that I got the reflash today and the Speed Tech. did not go under the hood at all. Like mentioned, the hook up is under the dash so only the driver's door was opened so that the cables could be hooked up.

Will I run into problems with my boost gauge? I tapped into the brake light wire just to the right of one of those wiring harnesses under the dash.
