compustar vs autopage

ok i have a quick question for you gentlman and scholars on alarms. I really want the compustart WSSR-A/S but the only place i found that can install it is 2 hours away from me and its a 4-5 hour install so i would have to take the day off of work and its $699 installed. NOw there is a place selling the Autopage the one I want is exactly like the compustar just doesnt have a the turbo timer (i dont have a turbo anyways), the range is only 1/4 mile vs the 1 1/4. and they cant hook up the auto start. but the good things about it is its only $465 installed and they will come to my work to install it and it has the LCD also. is the compustart that much better then the autopage? is it worth the $200 more, and the day off of work? Or is the autopage a good enough alarm? Thanks guys.

My friend has the Autopage system...He was parked next to me when my s*** got jacked. When he dissarmed his alarm, it beeped 4 times indicating that his alarm did go off earlier. His car was ok. I am getting the Compustar due to the fact that I am getting a hookup on it. I will also have some extra goodies too. With the right options, either of the alarms should do the trick.

cool thanx man, ill probably go with the autopage since its 200 less and they will come to me to install it. now i just got to wait for my car to get out of the body shop so i can install my alarm, cams, header (travler) and acc. pullies.

One more thing...you say they will not hook up the autostart because yours is a manual shift. Remember that the Compustar will accomodate a manual shift autostart system. Hence making the $200 difference worth it. Also Compustar makes a 2-way alarm system without the remote start which in turn will cost you less. If price still a consideration, the Autopage unit is not made by Autopage, you can get the same alarm with a Marksmann brand name for about $50 cheaper; same exact alarm. Also Prestige sells a similar unit with small cosmetic changes, maybe even cheaper. [not any more, its been updated by the 996 model]

would you mind posting some names a links for some comparable alarms. I can probably get the guy to hook it up. but remote start is not a big deal to me.

Just keep in mind that none of this alarms are built in the USA. That is including the Viper and Clifford models. I have installed all of this alarms, I'am most happy with the Compustar, although I changed the shock sensor to a DEI unit.

The Prestige, Autopage and Marksmann are very good systems, but they do take a more "cheesy" approach to their units. The difference between the Marksmann and the Autopage is that the Marksman has a built in shock sensor, which I personally do not like to use, but it has a built in watch and can also monitor the temperature inside the car, which I like. By the way Marksman is made by Magnadyne which makes Carbine alarms.

The DEI, unlike many of their other products, is an imported brain and remote mated to use their harnesses. They didnt even bother to make a different remote for their Clifford counter part.

cool thanks a lot man. sorry to keep buggin you. but how hard is the install on the Compustar, also is there a big difference between the compustar FM and SS, the only ones i could see is the Range on the remote. cause if the the FM is cheaper and just as good as the SS, but better then the other alarms i would get it.

I think that the SS uses the Spread Specrturm Technology...I know it is better somehow...

well thanks for the help guys, i found the WSS a/s on ebay for about 300, and the shop can install it for $40 an hour which they said should take 3-4 hours. so i will come out in the end close to the autopage and other alarm prices and be worth it. thanks again guys, atleast i know im getting a good alarm.

Nope, it is a complete alarm system that pages you, plus it has the options of remote start, turbo timer too.

yup, just won one on ebay for $309 shipped. go on ebay and to a search for compustar. from what i hear all over the place this is the alarm to get and have. everybody is telling me to get it. make sure to get the WSSR-A/S its the spread spectrume, 1.25 mile range, turbo timer, auto start (that works with manual transmissions) hopefully ill get it soon. i have a lot of stuff to put on my car. alarm, traveler header, j-spec cams, ss brake lines. im going to be busy.
