Complete turbo kit VS Pieced together kit: Price difference

I know people are probably getting sick and tired of seeing new turbo threads but I was reading through the main turbo thread and a few others looking for an answer but I couldn't find it or I looked over it.

I was wondering about the price difference between the two. I know it's kind of a blunt question because you can buy anything from stock to extreme aftermarket parts. I was hoping to run a front mount setup, forged internals, slightly larger snail, maybe run anywhere from 10-15 psi to be on the safe side since it's my daily driver.

I'd appreciate any input. Sorry in advance to anyone if I'm crossing the "WHY THE F*** DIDN'T YOU USE THE GOD D*** SEARCH ENGINE YOU NOOB TARD?!?" barrier. I haven't posted very many threads throughout the years but I've been a part of this forum for quite a while and it's done nothing but help me in every way and I'm very happy I'm part of it!

+1 I've wondered something similar. All I've seemed to gather is how good of deal can you get on parts vs exactly where you spend your money on parts. I'm interested to see what others have to say who have experience in it.

Going turbo can range from 0-10 on the money scale. Can you weld and fabricate? You looking for a high quality setup or more budget? Ball bearing or journal bearing turbo?
Building a motor is the same thing.

Hey I'll tell you what I got. My turbo kit was 1600, and I got 2 mani, Garrett gt25, stock dp, oil sandwich plate, FMIC, greddy BOV, gauges housing, wot no lift shift, msp ecu, modded oil pan, and all tubing needed. I'm pretty sure that everything I got with mine

There is pretty much no place that you can get a "turbo kit" for the Protege's anymore. I know Speedcircuit has one listed but am not sure if he still has the steedspeed manifolds since they have been out of production for years now. Like Ryan said, depending on what you want to do is going to determine the amount of money you end up spending. Not including the turbokit you'll be looking at $1800-$2500 just to go forged. Here's a good DIY for going forged http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?123825353-DIY-Protege-forged-motor-prepare-guide. You can see there is a lot involved, then you have to consider how you're going to run the engine and tune it properly. Most will suggest getting a standalone ECU because trying to run a piggyback like an SSAFC will not allow you to achieve your goals of running high boost. If you just want a MSP turbo kit then it may cost you a lot less but won't get you the power that you're looking for.
