Last couple days it's been cold here in Ohio.yesterday and going into today when I be at a stop light and turns green i start accelerating my car it shoot up to 5000 rpm then finally shifts usually its shifts 2500 rpm. Its not happen every time. I have a 2003 automatic MP5 with 80K miles. I don't know if it's just because of the cold or something worse(tranny). If anyone can help it be great thank you.

does it do it more when the engine has not warmed up fully? if so i would say maybe the cold. if not start with a simple fluid level/condition check. if its low add some import multi vehicle or mercon V (5) i would use mercon V as thats what the manual states, import multi vehicle will cover mercon v requirements but better safe then sorry and i think the mercon v is cheaper. if its brown or dark in color you need a new filter and fluid, do not flush it if its brown, shops will try to get you to do that, its a bad idea! just a new filter pan gasket and fluid. if its low and dark adding is ok, but just know it needs service. if none of the above it may have more than a fluid issue, and maybe failing mechanically somewhere in the transmission
