Cant get Transmission Fluid changed???

Hi Guys,

I dropped my car off at the local firestone to get a $15 oil change, and a brake inspection.

I am coming up on the 30,000 mile service, so I figured that I would get them to do a transmission fluid change and all that. I have never done that, so I wasn't sure how it would go...Let them do it.

Here the guy calls me back and tells me that the Transmission fluid is brown, not the usual red. He says that Mazda must've put something in there, or changed the type of fluid from red to whatever, and never updated the service manuals yet....So he tells me they can't do it, and that they recommend that I take it to a dealer to do it...Ok, Firestone $50 to do it, my dealer...$100 to do it...WTF?

Anyone know what the deal with the transmission fluid is?

iono bout you all... but when it hit time for my first change, i when for the tranny oil change too... and when my mech inspected the oil, he's got no clue as to what fluid mazda was using.. to him it seemed like engine oil...althou mine was manual...

correct me if i'm wrong,

but I thought 5 speed manual trans does not require you to change transmission oils. only auto trans do.

i know i dun.. but seriously to say.. i dun trust what's in my car if i didnt see what i put into it... and i put in synthetic... smother shifting :D

they say it is not a "must" to change the fluid in a manual, like it is to change the engine oil. I have never really understood that one, but think about it, your transmission is subjected to the heat and constant moving parts just like your engine, so dont you think the fluid would eventually break down, just like oil. I think i would rather do it and not take any chances.

Post up what you find because my tranny fluid was black and should have been red. I talked to my deler and he has no idea what was put in. Either way it was pretty much crap, kinda sludgey (is that a word)
