Broken I/C Pipe

Broken I/C Pipe and b**** Session.

Yup, two days after I get the car back for a burnt clutch, the piping from the BPV to the intercooler has snapped off. If you look at where the intercooler's large diameter pipe meets the BOV tube, that's where it has broken. It looks like the two tubes were just glued together, literally. OrangeMSP had to come out with duct tape so we could temporarily hold the piping together. Yes, after three months, I'm already having to hold this damn car together with duct tape. :wtf:

So here's a *partial* list of my problems experienced so far (in no specific order):
  • Brakes grind at low speed, even when going straight. ("It's a characteristic of the car.")
  • Pulls left during braking most of the time. ("It's a characteristic of the car")
  • Pulls right also during braking at other times. (Need I say it again?"
  • Notchy shifter. Often VERY difficult to get into first from neutral, if not impossible for a while. (Yet again, "It's a characteristic of the car")
  • Falls on it's ass and doesn't get back up when it heats up or gets hot tempature-wise.
  • bad ass piping breaking while driving causing car to surge, sputter, buckle, and then finally stall. (FEH!)
  • A/C compressor making hissing noise when A/C is engaged.
  • Coolant actually boiling over and out of the resevoir when the car was turned off.
  • Battery has died twice and car would thusly not start unless jumped.
  • Squeaky clutch. ("Fixed")
  • Burnt up clutch within two months. (Could be me, but that's a whole hell of a lot of racing/abuse/autoxing/what the **** ever to cause it to burn up so quickly.)
  • Radio's plastic surround piece squeaking. ("Fixed")
  • Scratches all over the radio's plastic surround now thanks to the dealer/tech as they repaired the squeak.
  • Subwoofer has blown. ("Fixed")
  • Amp popping fuses, even with NF level of -05. I now make sure I have a box of 15amp fuses in the car at all times.
  • Amp overheats, even with only the stock sub hooked up.
  • New (2003.5 model) Kenwood amp/sub enclosure rattles when going over bumps. ("Fixed")
  • During playback, the Kenwood HU comes to the halfway closed position and stops. Resetting it is the only fix. (New HU has been ordered but is on a four month backorder. YAY!)
  • HU does not remember previous settings sometimes. I've practically memorized the menu's of it from setting it up so many damn times.
  • Antenna connector on rear window has come off of the glass and is just hanging there.
  • Black window trim on rear passenger door is bubbling up.
  • Cigarette lighter coming out of the socket. ("Fixed")
  • Alarm left parking lights on after car was off & armed. ("Fixed")
  • Squeaky driver seat.
  • Squeaky seatbelt buckler contraption. (<-- True grease monkey word.)
  • Hesitation (Yay!)
  • Airbox duct keeps falling off and will not stay connected to the airbox.
  • Left front tire now rubs after rotation.
  • Glovebox plastic slightly discolored above handle.
  • White mold appeared inside of headlight lens over directional (amber) lens.
  • Did I mention hesitation?
  • Cargo net clips in trunk have broken off completely.
  • Thin ass paint that chips if a mosquito flys near it.
  • Coolant is leaking somewhere, but it's not in the usual place found by many on the boards.
  • Tires wear out WAY too fast and do not provide decent grip in rain.
  • Hard water deposits from the docks which have still not come off.
  • Weather stripping around left sidemarker became warped and was letting water behind the light.
  • NO AFTERMARKET SUPPORT FROM MAZDA, WHETHER IT BE THEIR OWN LINE OF "MAZDASPEED" CRAP OF THIRD PARTY.

You Austoinans, I don't know about yall! :D Yeah, I do feel a lot of what you 2 are screamin'. Even the SRT-4 has more support than us.

If I didn't have almost 11k miles on a three month old car, I'd seriously be thinking about switching cars. Then again, it's kinda like the 94 Honda Accord. The first gen of the then new body style had all kinds of problems.

I guess thats what you get for being the first.

Yeah, no s***. It's my first Mazda and I'm not happy at all. I thought this would be my dream car, and while I still love everything about it, this is getting very old; very quickly.

Thanks for your support.

Sorry to hear about all the problems..I have a few, but not that many..

For the airbox duct..mine broke off too..so I just put a clamp around it, and it seems to hold well

Hey Orange if he stopped by could you have your boys take a look at T3's amp. I have a feeling everything Battery/audio/amp related is from a common problem. Although 15 amps sounds too small. The alarm peice you could probably sort out too.

The radio squeeks mine did to so I lined everything with weather stripping and hot glued on the plastic clips sp they didn't rattle anymore.I would think for Vinal you could demand a new door.

Do yourself a favor and get a new deck. Most people that ever sold those Kenwoods wouldn't know if they had too. They are a know POS and is why mazda could buy them cheap. Get and Alpine CDA9811 and don't look back.

Holy crap!

Your car sounds cursed.
I have barely had any problems at all.
I feel for ya.

Hey t3ase!

I'll have just what you need in about two weeks to fix up your weak plastic intercooler piping.Working on new project,SHHHH......

Well, a lack of money and no hard pipes in production anywhere kinda keeps me from doing that. I could go custom, but that'd be a bit more than I want to/can shell out right now. Unless you need me to be a beta tester.. :D

How much did they charge ya for the clutch?
They covered it once under warranty.

OrangeMSP has looked at my amp and we turned the gain down from it's previous 3/4 setting. That solved a lot of the problems but it still overheats & pops fuses. I guess dance music takes a toll after a while. They did replace the amplifier, subwoofer and enclosure with a newer 2003.5 model, but now it rattles when going over bumps.

As far as the squeak goes, the dealership fixed it this last time it was in for two weeks straight. They managed to scratch the hell out of the radio surround piece, which has pissed me off to no extent.

About the Alpine deck, it may be a reasonable option once I have cash, but it's not feasable right now. We'll see how the new HU they ordered for me acts when I get it.

I remember those days... My car was once problem free, too. Seems the bad luck has caught up with me. Thanks for the sympathy, though. Good luck with your MSP.

If an amp is overheating and poping fuses then there is another problem to be found. A bad ground or power connection would do it. Overall lack of voltage and since your battery is dying that could be too. Massive AC current in the car from a dying rectifier bridge in the alternator, also cuasing the battery issue. Slighly grounded power wire. Subs the wrong impedance.

i have had my iC pipe and the air box inlet hose replaced for those reasons. yup the nipple is a cheapo glued piece. $150 for a stainless steel hard pipe section to replace that pipe. add $35 for a hks bov flange.

Matt,
Just a thought. I notice my plastic pipes getting very hot under the hood. I don't know that much about piping, but is it possible to insulate the tubing to keep it from picking up as much heat from the engine compartment? If so, I would suggest insulating the pipes you are working on.

The turbo looks like it some kind of heat shield/wrapping. Maybe get some of that stuff and wrap the piping. Dunno.

that has got to be the longest list of problems, I have have ever heard about with a brand new car.... hopefully you can get it fixed ...
Bruce
