Hello Everyone, does anyone have a clue..
I have a Protege '97 1.5L Manual Transmission that stayed in my garage for a year without being run at all (excuse my negligence).
When I started it the other day my breaks were not functioning, pedal had no pressure at all and going all the way down with no resistance; breaking is at the very minimum.
My break fluid is on level.
Before I grounded the car they were doing excellent job and were quite responsive.
Now, when I started the car, my alternator belt, stiffened from no usage, squeaked for a few seconds and then snapped. I wander if that is the reason the breaks not to function, although I think I know that break assist comes from a vacuum tube from the engine.
The snapped belt, though, I think affected my power steering which is off now (it worked before).
The other reason for the breaks not functioning, I am thinking, could be a problem with the master cylinder of the break fluid. My clutch pedal though is working fine, and as far as I know break and clutch pedal use the same master cylinder; if the clutch pedal is working fine, should the break pedal be working fine as well?
Thanks to everyone who would take their time to read this and have a splendid day.
