According to the FSM, the ATF capacity is~7.6 qts (7.2L)
The specified type is ATF M-V or equivalent (e.g. Dexron III)

For a synthetic ATF, I recommend Red Line Synthetic D4 ATF. This is recommended for transmissions that are designed to use oils such as Dexron III.

that's with a full system flush. if you're just draining what comes out of your tranny oil pan, you'll change roughly 3 quarts. the rest of it hangs out in the convertor.

jesus 7.6 qts thats a lot. You positive on that number
Yes, 7.6 qts is what the FSM states. I don't know much about A/T's but I know they have a cooler and cooler lines that add to the capacity requirement. I believe when you drain the trans via the drain plug alone you cannot get all the old oil out. To completely drain the trans requires a special machine which power flushes all the old oil out. You can take your car to a shop that does this and then have them put in the oil of your choice. The 7.6 qts is probably required only after a complete flush but I don't know for sure. Sorry I can't be of more help.
