'06 Mazda 5
Just wanted to say hello. I have been browsing here for a few weeks. I took the plunge and bought a '06 Mazda 5 Sport on Friday. I have to say that I am very surprised in every way. It is silver with a 5spd. tranny. The vehicle is extremely comfortable, spacious and practical not to mention fun to drive.

Welcome to the board. You will find your 06 mazda5 fun to drive (especially the MT) I got an MT too and loved every minute of it

woah woah, the 5 comes in MT?

SWEEEEEET

Yeah, in the states Mt only comes with the sports so no side sills, fog lights, moon roof (2007 model) in Canada both trims comes in MT GS and GT.

The fact that it's a Van type car and has a MTX at all is awesome. I can't remember the last van besides maybe a transit which has an available MTX.

well its been around awhile since 06. That's what nailed my decision to buy this car in the first place.

Welcome!!
yes the 5 is a great vehicle, too bad the engine doesn't have at least 25 more horses. we have at least 4 people in our car on any given day and after a while you can feel the lack in power.
Regardless we are very happy with it.

I seem to remember someone putting a MZR in a 5 before.. but that it was insane in the amount of actual work.

I believe the 06-07 you could still get the Touring in 5 speed...it wasnt til I think 09-10 that they only offered the manual in sport only. (wrc)

that doesnt happen in the MT

what is an MZR?

MZR is just the generic name of new 4cylinder mazda engines, so it can technically mean everything from the 1.8L to the 2.5L that's used in the brand new 2010 cars(and the one that's already in the Mazda 5). Usually though, it referrers to the 2.3L DISI turbocharged MZR (with the specific engine model number L3-VDT) in the MS3/MS6/CX-7

wow, ok.
Thanks, don't think i will be doing that upgrade.

sephiroth, that van in your first post (Magicwagon) came with a 4spd manual when equipped with a 4cyl. The 2.2 turbo/manual was a common combo in the late 80's.

I don't remember the MT in the old Voyager/Caravan, but then, in the 80s I was busy thinking about girls, math, and 1960s musclecars, NOT minivans!
Funny how the 5 is about the same size as the original SWB Caravan! Modern vans really cannot be called minivans at all.

My '06 is one of the above-mentioned hard-to-find Touring MT cars. Gearing is great around town - not fast by any means, but power-sufficient nonetheless - and the wife got 24.4 mpg last tank - ALL stoplight-to-stoplight!

Take THAT you pathetic Toyota "Swagger-wagon!"
