Is it necessary to hit the lock button twice on the keyless entry to arm the alarm? When you hit it twice the horn sounds. Is that an indication the alarm is active? According to the book you only have to hit it once. I didnt even realize the car had an alarm. I previously hit the lock(on the keyfob) and then tried to open the door(through an open window) to see if there is an alarm. Nothing went off. Am I doing something wrong? It's my wifes car so I cant go outside and try it at the moment.

All Mazdas are like this. It's a great feature, because if you are in a place where you can't be makin loud noise with the horn chirp you can avoid it.

Are you sure you have an alarm? Pretty much all Mazas (if not all) sold today have keyless entry, but they don't come standard with alarms 90% of the time.

Thats what I thought but the book says there is an audible alarm. So either I dont get how to arm it or its not functioning.

It might not arm for 15-30 seconds after the car locks. I know with my OEM Mazda alarm it arms like 5 seconds after you hit the button. Opening the car by reaching through an open window and opening the locked door from the inside is definitely the way to set it off.

The "audible alarm" could be used to describe the panic button, which any Mazda with keyless entry will have. They'll normally call it a "security" system or at least something with the word security.

I will give it a try tonight. Thnx

I know on the CX-7 you have to have the tech package to have the "Perimeter Alarm". That's what you need for it to have an alarm in the sense you are thinking.

Other than that it is simply the panic button on the remote.
