A turbo Civic EX? Ooooo, scary... Not. :)

Well, I meant to post about this the day it happened, but I was too busy. First off, I was driving my truck at the time, I just wish the P5 was that fast. :)

Anyways, on my way to work earlier this week, I notice a Red ~02 Civic EX (New Body style) 2-door with a large spoiler, ground effects, Huge canister type muffler, extremely lowered, ~19 or so inch gunmetal rims, and a few assorted stickers on the front quarter panel. It would have been ok without the spoiler and overdone exhaust I guess, but it was pretty gawdy. Well, he passes me on the highway at about 70 or so, and blips the throttle hard, basically making his car fart real loud next to mine... I was surprised to notice it over the mellow roar of the flowmasters, but I did. Well, I thought it strange that he took the same exit as when we got within a few miles of where I work...

The company I work for is located on the other side of the industrial park for Jackson, MS. It's kind of out by itself, and the road that runs by the building is a four-lane about 1 mile long, with a stop light on one end. Well, when you turn off the main hwy, you take the exit, and end up at the light with no cross traffic or anything from there...

I end up in the left lane (the side my building is on) first in line with the Civic in the right lane. While we're sitting there waiting on the light, dingus over in the Civic starts revving it up.... to me it sounded like redline or something. I swear I thought I heard a turbo spooling a little, but figured it was my imagination. I figured I would humor him, since no one was around, other than the people behind us. I tap the throttle up to about 2,000 RPMS just to see what he thought and he quit revving. Well, at green he takes off hard, as do I once I realize he was serious. He pulls about 1/2 car until ~15 MPH when he started spinning his tires. I let off to even it up, and coast to about 30. Once he lines up again I go Wide Open at 30MPH, as does he. To my surprise he kept up with me until about 60 when I started to pull away, but only a small margin. I gave up at about 75MPH with maybe 1 CL by that time.

At the end of that road, I turn around to head back to my turnoff for work. So does he... I'm wondering why, until he follows me into the parking lot. Turns out the guys starting working where I do a few weeks ago. He had some sort of Greddy turbo kit, added an intercooler, and all sorts of other junk. It was too damn cold to be standing out there looking at cars. I didn't get a chance to hear all about his setup, but I should find out pretty soon. Anyways, fairly nice guy, but sort of cocky. He said he's never had a truck pull on him from a roll. Oh well, I figure he's just lucky I wasn't spraying. He wants to race again... I told him next week maybe (that way I'll have time to go and fill the bottle again.) It's actually been in the back of the protege for the past week, waiting for a refill. I wish I had it that day, my win would have been by a lot larger margin. I wonder if I should tell him about the N20... Nah... he'll figure it out when I use it next time. ;) At any rate, I figured I would share.

Your lucky
That dude didn't have his engine built for that turbo. My friend here has been running 12.5s in the quarter with his civic. But way to represent.
