2008+ instrument cluster works in '07?

Recently purchased an '07 Touring but noticed that with sunglasses on, it's really hard to see the instrument cluster due to its recessed location and lack of back-lighting during the daytime. Probably also has to do with my aging eyes but that can't be helped.

Does anyone know if the electroluminescent cluster from the '08+ model works in the '07?

Thanks,

TM

I don't know the specific answer to your question, but be aware that any cluster swap will require dealer programming for operation.

A less intrusive option may be to have someone instal LED directional lighting underneath the dash glass (plastic) that directs the light on the gauges. It could be wired into the ignition so that its on whenever electricity is being delivered to the powertrain. Maybe 4 small LED clusters - 1 for each gauge - recessed into the dash surround.

Mahalo for the suggestions. For now, I'm driving with the headlights on and the instrument lighting at full brightness. That also solves my other pet peeve of no DRLs. Will research the instrument cluster swap some more and provide an update whether successful or not.

Have been kicking around this idea too...'researching' ebay (looking at the pictures between the various model years) they appear to be the same as far as mounts are concerned.
The only other bit of info I was able to find was on a Mazda6 forum where two guys were able to swap clusters successfully, the only catch is that the odometer reading stays with the cluster, not the car.

Well I did swap my old 2006 mazda5 cluster for the newer (used and bought from Ebay's for $55) 2008 EL cluster and let me tell you it looks great! The two plugs on the back of the cluster are the same. You only have to programmed it so the immobilizaer recognize this newer cluster. Easy as 1-2-3.

The only issue that i have with this new cluster is that the fuel needle is not reading. I still don't know if this is a problem with the cluster i got from ebay's or if this is an issue with the car's wiring. I guess have to do some work on the cluster's pin out and find out what's wrong.

Will send some pictures if there's someone willing to do a cluster swap.
