03.5 msp leaking gas tank

Hey everyone, well the 03.5 started smelling like gas about a week ago, I went to my buddies shop and throw it up on the hoist. I found out the gas tank is leaking at the very top where the sending unit is, is this a common area for this to leak. Also is there any other way to fix the problem other then replacing the tank. The place I got a quote from for the new tank also said that sometimes its not the tank leaking put the sending unit cracks (plastic) because of the rusting of the top securing flange. Anyways let me know if you have any info.

On another note, the exhaust manifold is now leaking when cold. I noticed there a bolt missing on the bottom left side, I'm guessing it broke because I couldn't just thought another one back in :-( the rest of the bolts look nasty and rusty. Is there and tricks on get this bolts out with snapping them off.

One last thing the stock kenwood finally crapped out, it's in the half open position now :-( it's weird you snap the face off and it opens fully, snap it back on and closes to the half position. I'm guessing its the ribbon cable

There is a rubber gasket for the fuel pump. Maybe it's bad?

+1 on the rubber gasket. It might be a cracked sending unit. just drop the tank and check it out. i doubt the tank is actually leaking. The road salt does major work on the rubber seals...

Ya so true, the other problem with the roads salts is the small bolts that hold the top securing plate on the tank are nice and rusty, I'll be lucky to be Balt to get them out.

Anyone have any ideas regarding the exhaust manifold removal and it's rusty bolts.

My exhaust bolts were so rusty I didn't even bother taking them off. You can drop the tank without moving the exhaust. It is a huge pain in the butt to maneuver it outta there with the exhaust on though.

The exhaust manifold needs to come off because it's leaking up at the head and I believe it's cracked.
