Zaino vs NXT

Whats a good wash to strip the wax? And is it bad to strip and rewax often, or is it worse to keep adding layer on top of layer of wax...?

Just curious, because Mazda paint isn't exactly the best...
Actually, Zaino reccomends you use Dawn dishwashing detergent to strip the existing wax off. Then you claybar it, then use the Zaino car wash. Then you start the waxing procedure. They say you only need to do this long process twice a year. See the "quick tips" section at www.zainobros.com for a more detailed description.

When deciding how/when to wash your car, you've also gotta consider your conditions, too. Is your car parked outside all day every day? Mine is. Do you barely drive it? I've got 36k miles on my MSP so far in around a year's time. Are there factories around you? Yup. Construction? Yup. Stupid immature kids that egg or throw coke on your car? Yup.

I clay my car so often because I feel it needs it. "Normal" people may not need it so often. However, since I smoke, it's pretty easy for me to get the plastic cellophane, put my fingers in it and run it over the car every time I wash it. You can notice a *LOT* of imperfections that way and I don't like that. Clay bars remove most of those and then the cleaning polish after that removes even more.

Mequiar's has an "Your Car's RX" or something on their website. I'd recommend that people go check it out. It's basically a form you fill out with your location, driving habits, parking locations, etc. and it suggests a washing routine. I'm not saying it should be your standard to follow every time but it helps get an idea of what you should be doing.

Also, for what it's worth, do NOT wash or wax your car in circles. Use a back and forth motion, even with soap and a mitt. This is even more important with cleaner and wax to prevent swirl marks. I guarantee you will not find a single swirl mark on my car, even with it's frequent washing.

NXT is also the easiest wax I've ever applied & removed. It may not last longer than 3-4 weeks but that's not a factor for me. I'm not about to spend >$100 on wax again, period. Zainos is far overrated in my opinion now that I've used NXT.

I tried the NXT today, and i have to admit, it looks pretty damn good. Goes on easier than most waxes ive used, and comes off pretty easily as well. A little goes along way, so the bottle should last a while and be worth the 15.

However, this is definately show car stuff, and if you just want to keep the car protected and pretty shiny, then you dont have to spend the 15 on it. Zymol Wax is 13, or meguiars gold class, or something would work just as well.

I probably really need to claybar the whole car and then reapply it, but as it stands, i just washed the car with a palmolive/zymol car wash mix to try to get some of the old wax off, and then pulled it in the garage and waxed away.

Good times. :)

I'm still leaning towards Zaino. I just hate how fast meguiars washes off on me in the past. Unless I'm reading lies about Zaino on other forums. It does indeed last a long time.

I might order this tomorrow.

yeah clay bars work well but are scary..i almost dropped mine on the ground, but luckily it landed on a clean towel. once you drop those things on the floor or ground..you gotta throw them away.

I'm going to answer my own question. According to most car forums I'm on. The answer is NO. And that Meguiars does not ship to Canada. Canadian Tire, and Walmart, are meguiars largest dist. and they do not offer NXT tech wax. Canadian Tire is rumored to start supplying it, possibly MAy or 2005. In other words, nobody knows when. Kind like, your MAzdaspeed is "on the way". Cheque is in the Mail.

So, even if I wanted NXT, I can't get it. Sucks, cause money is tight, and I might look into getting some somehow.

After reading all the reviews I've found for Zaino I think I'm gonna order the set. I'm running low on my current stash (Meguiar's 3-step). If it's really as good as it sounds, I'm gonna really appreciate the less amount of work involved :)

I talked to my wife the other day and she said the P5 was still nice and shiny, it's been almost 2 months since I applied the NXT wax on it. She sent me some pictures online and yes it still does look beautiful. I guess it's a matter of preference. If you do a search for NXT, I made a thread with pics after the wax application.

I was thinking about the NXT stuff also. Does anyone know what to use for carbon fiber? I feel I need to protect it under the Texas sun. Will the NXT work for that as well or is there some special stuff I need to buy?

that is apparantly over 20 coats of Zaino over time. That's not something done in one or two days. With the new ZFX accelerator, you can easily do 3 coats in one day. Anymore is wasteful as it needs to set properly.

FRom what I've been reading, Zaino does last a lot longer then traditional Synthetc and Carnuba based waxes. How much longer? I don't really know yet.

I've noticed the NXT is a wax and Zaino is a polish. Does this reduce Zaino's protection properties?
