Z828 Petition...?

Hey all,

I was thinking about doing an online petition for us MP3s that got the Z919 head unit. Is this a good bad idea? Is there something about the Z919 that is better? Cause I'm not seeing it . Also, does anyone know of any good, fast online petition sites? The only one I could find on Google for this type of thing was www.petitiononline.com , but its not accepting right now...

This petition has been drafted in order to bring to the attention of Mazda North America that several Mazda MP3 owners find the practices within this document to be unacceptable. This petition also calls for logical and just action to be taken by Mazda North America for its customers in a reasonable amount of time.

The 2001 Mazda MP3 is a limited edition Protg with several distinguishing features. One of these features is the Kenwood MP3 head unit (stereo). There is a discrepancy between which head unit certain Mazda MP3 customers received. About sixty percent of Mazda MP3 customers received the Kenwood Z919 unit, while the other forty percent received the Z828 unit.

The Z828 unit is far superior in quality and features over the Z919 unit. Some of the key features include, but are not limited to:

* Detachable face
* 3D Matrix display
* Graphic EQ
* Ability to read MP3 ID3 tags
* Sirrus satellite-radio-ready
* Additional screensaver settings

The Z828 unit was once thought to be offered to Canadian customers only. However, yellow Protg MP3s and several new blue Protg MP3s in the United States have been built with the Z828 head unit. The retail value of the Kenwood Z828 stereo head unit is $700.00 USD while the retail value of the discontinued Kenwood Z919 is $399 USD.

We Mazda Protg MP3 owners with Z919 head units, demand an exchange to be made with the Z828 head unit at our local dealer at no cost. We believe this discrepancy between automobiles of the same year, make, and model to be unfair and unacceptable. We hope that Mazda North America will serve its customers with just action and within a reasonable amount of time in order to keep its important relationship with its customers.

thats would be nice and all but i dont think it would work considering when you purchased the car you knew it had the 919 i thought mine was going to have it to then when i got in to my surprize i had the 828

Yeah, I'm kind of figuring that. However, if we can really get on their case maybe we can get somewhere. I just can't believe there isn't some kind of issue with putting in a stereo that is 10x better in the same exact car during the same year. Its like you're packaging something up to be the same, when indeed the inside is different. Almost false advertising?

When I get the petition up, I'll let you know. I'll need help spreading a word to all protege/mp3 boards when the time comes. I don't know if this will result in much (the chances are against), but if we can cause enough trouble just MAYBE...

I'm with u on this...I hate the Z919 and I just went back to my dealer today and the yellow MP3 they had came with the Z828 which looks much better as well as better functions... I thought only the Canadian ones came with the Z828... tell me when the petition is done...

I'm not sure you will be able to do something about that. Have you ever read the small caracters on any car advertising(including our MP3) : "Mazda reserves the right to make changes without notice in product content and price at any time." (from Mazda's web site)

Hi all,

First Off: NEED A FUNCTIONAL FREE ONLINE PETITIONING SITE. As I said, the one I found off google was not accepting new petitions due to server upgrades. So if anyone can point me to one, I'll start it up and put the link down. Then all we need to do is spread the link on forums and try to keep the post near the top on these forums.

Hey, I realize there is a very slim chance of this accomplishing a new stereo. But I figure if we can get like 80% of the people that got Z919s on the petition, and everybody write a letter to Mazda North America, we can at least make them realize that they cannot do something like this to their customers. What do you have to lose? Its but a few minutes of your precious time!

We'll take the Shawshank Redemption route, and just "write a letter every week".

We need to make theft a key point on this petition just the fact the z919 face doesnt remove it is hurting our insuruance pay if stolen making us pay for it in the long run with a removable face we are able to minimize our theft by a major amount!

Count me in. i am really starting to enjoy the mp3 player but i hate how it doesnt have a detachable face. Its like asking to get your car broken in too. Keep posting info! ill definitly sign.

Well, I suppose if it comes down to it I could write some petition ASP stuff for the site. Maybe it could be put to use for other purposes as well? Hey I Just bought a Yellow Mp3 but I didnt even check to see if I got the z919 or the z828. If anyone is remotly interested. I'll let you know which one it came with.
