Well, I'd like everyone to sign this if possible. I just got my car broken into because someone wanted my Z929 stereo. The one without the removable face plate. I talked to the dealer about getting a Z828 instead and they said they wouldn't credit me at all if I wanted to swap into the 828 w/ removable faceplate.

Basically, I got screwed. Would this have happened if I had the removable faceplate? I'll never know...

I'm a little late on this one, but I just saw the thread. I thought that the 919 faceplate would detach. I'm pretty sure that you can pull it out when it pauses during flipping. I'll have to check, but I got a carrying case with the car, and my head unit does not look like the pic of the 828 on the first page of this thread.

You should be able to set the amount of time that the faceplate pauses. It will flip forward so that the display points straight down. Then it pauses. Then if filps to the back (blank) side of the plate. I think you are supposed to detach it during that pause.

I was thinking the same thing. Mine says KDC-MP919 or something, but it definitely detaches by using the technique mentioned above. Did you guys not read your manual? (hand)

I'm satisfied with mine, for the most part. I'm always for getting free stuff, but ... don't trust my dealership to replace it anyway.

No, for real, that's the CD player I bought my Protege MP3 with in April 2004! Judging by your comment, I don't know if this means it had been upgraded by the previous owner or the Mazda dealership previously, however I now assume it's not the original deck. Yay for me (and Feak).
