You know if I had 1 major complaint or design flaw it would be........

What is up with that hole in the dash near your left hand. Its half the size of a credit card. What could you possibly store there? Make it bigger or remove it.

It's where the navigation system memory card reader goes. I imagine that if you don't have the nav system, you have a hole there.

Also I can't stand auto locking doors. If we stop and someone needs to get out the driver has to un-lock the doors. Both are dumb I know but you asked.

This setable. Page 3-15 of the 2014 Owners Manual. Not sure what page for 2015.

If there was something major, I would not have bought the cx-5.
Best answer here.
I am not a fan of the door lock switch. IMO it is backward, up should be unlock and down to lock. Also I can't stand auto locking doors. If we stop and someone needs to get out the driver has to un-lock the doors. Both are dumb I know but you asked.
That tiny cubby, worthless.
Not sure if you have Bose/nav, but you can change door lock settings under SETUP.

The god damn USB playback issue.

But that's pretty much it. Maybe if they added paddle shifters and if the rear seats folded all the way down without taking the head restraints out , but it's livable.....

Build quality could've been a lot tighter in some areas. Some vibrating/rattling sounds have started occurring.

And not sure if it's just mine, but acceleration has been kinda spotty lately. Will have to have the tech look at it next service stop.

I'm opposed to letting baby elephants ride up front anyway. My firm conviction is that baby elephants belong in the trunk area.

Call me old fashioned.

I keep the baby hippo in the cargo area and they don't play well together without proper supervision.

Well, I can mark a minor irritant off my list-- mute for the audio. I couldn't understand why Mazda had skipped such a simple to implement function. Yes, I had noticed that the volume knob is labeled "push for power" or something to that effect, and I even seem to remember checking that out early on and managing to turn stuff off, so I've been ignoring it. But today I just sort of randomly punched it and was rewarded with the odd message "audio off" (why not just say "mute"?) and the delightful muting of a commercial. Learn something every day.

My chief complaint remains...

The idiotic key feature on the 2013 Touring - A proxy key for push button start, with the physical button on the fob still needed to lock or unlock the doors.
Unless I am mistaken, the 2014+ models amended this, and offered proximity entry. Just another way early buyers/13 owners were hosed.

If my CX-5 had proxy entry, my wife wouldn't have lost her fob completely, and "misplaced" her spare damn near every day, cause it'd have never left her purse.

After driving mine for a few months most of the things I nit picked don't bother me much now.

My only gripe now is the way it s****. It seems to be less smooth than when I first bought it.

Long time ago now I had a 97 Chevy Silverado, the center console was big enough to store a baby elephant. I miss that.
Miles on it?

? I think that's only because you cheaper out and got the touring. Was gonna make a joke about the keys but it would have been disrespectful/inappropriate lol.

Cheap isn't the reason. I bought my CX-5 in the first week of March, before any substantial inventory was available. The wife refused to purchase a white or Sky Blue GT, and that's all there was at the time. So, silver Touring it was.

Guess I'll take my cheap ass to the Audi dealer, and trade in this bad Mazda.

^ I will be sympathetic and acknowledge that as a sad story. Wow, quite the sacrifice to get a common plain ole silver gray Touring.

Yes, I already posted the following in thread about GT's features:

. HID headlights (aftermarket upgrade attempts, none match the performance of Mazda version)
. Leather (some of paid to upgrade seating surfaces in leather, not cheap for labor and materials)
. Door armrests (many have complained about lack of durability of material on door armrest areas of 2013's, not a problem on GT), since been fixed by Mazda on 2014's
. Heated mirrors (a successful upgrade has been accomplished at minimal cost, see How To section for details), standard on lower level models in Canada
. Drivers seat-power / 8 way adjustments (complaints about the lack of adjustment on non-GT drivers seats, for some drivers)
. Keyless remote (on the GT advanced keyless works like proper premium car keyless system should)
. Nav (despite crap voice command feature that nobody uses, Nav works). And nobody has reported a GT w/tech pkg broken into to steal portable Nav.
. Climate control, works great, dual climate control is handy (some people miss it, I don't think its a big deal, but expected in premium cars)
. Heated seats (some can't live without them it seems, still trying to figure out how to do that hack), although some GT owners are disappointed they don't burn flesh.
. 19" wheels look better by far than anything offered by Mazda for this vehicle (and the Toyo tires are nice and quiet)

Silver has got to be my least favorite color on an automobile. But, whatever. It's my wife's car, she can pick what she wants. The CX-5 is a modest car for me. But, my wife doesn't much care about what she drives, so long as it is reliable, and doesn't break the bank. So, maybe silver really is appropriate.

It IS a sad story. As you can tell, I'm bitter about it. Personally, I love white on cars. (pow)
