unfortunately, there is another wrecked MSP out. I was on my way to norwalk raceway, i had to get off at the next exit, i was in the middle lane, i went to merge and there was trafic, so i had to slow to get in an opening, and before i could finish the merge the big dodge ram behind me towing a camper plowed into me. every one is okay ( the dodge was barely touched) my car will probably be totalled out. too bad its only 6 months old. Just to know what to expect. what are the totaled MSPs getting fromt he insurance company? well here are some pics

BTW, thats not me in the first pic.

Doesn't look totalled from the pics. there was a Titanium on here that was way worse and they fixed it.

Good thing everyone was okay though.

glad you made it out okay but I am with Vega here... that is just a future of headaches for you and your insurance company as you deal with your future car that won't match, won't shut right, etc... been there.

yeah - doesnt look totaled - but if they total it anyway but it back and sell sell sell (rofl)

im pretty sure its totalled, and if my bank will let me buy it back, for a decent price i will buy it and sell it to my friend, he loves my car, and wasnt in the right financial situation to buy one when we were gettinga ll the rebates. so if they let me its gonna go to him. i will however more than likely, end up with my uncles yellow MSP. But all there is to do now is wait, and see what cards i get dealt and go from their. i just hope they dont give me a rediculously low number if it is totalled. some one told me that if it is totalled within one year of purchase of a new vehicle, they give you full MSRP? is that true?

well, its gonna need a whole new rear clip. and legally they can not put any other rear clip other than from a 2003 protege (they are not allowed to put an older one on there). also there are alot of things under the car that is damaged, i can only put 8 gallons of gas cause it is a little bit crushed. and the frame buckled (i think) but we will see.

damn kris that sucks. so sam is gonna sell you his yellow speed?

i hope for your sake it is totalled, but from what everyone else says, i dont know. Your family works in the body shop, they would know.

My Yellow Speed had slightly less damage and it was fixed for $5,200.00. As far as the gas, if you leave the engine running it will sometimes stop the flow of gas and spit it out all over the place. Shut it off and check it again if that was the case. Good luck. If they end up fixing it, remove all the rear badging. Be extra, extra careful with the right rear badge. Cheap s*** aluminum/resin and it bends easily and it costs $50.00. Save all the rear light bulbs that arn't broke. If the right tail is slightly damaged, pull the bulbs. Pull out the cargo net. If they total it, strip the car!!! Floor mats, head unit, remote, valve caps and chrome valve covers, and more!!!

If you're frame wasn't bent at all, then that's definitely not totaled. Whenever there is frame damage involved in an accident, I always feel it's best to get rid of the car...I just wouldn't feel safe riding in it after that. Good luck with everything.

my brother-in-law does collision, and i do a lot of estimates. if there is frame damage, it *may* still not be totalled. We've had a cadillac in a 10mph sandwiched situation with frame damage that we fixed back to OEM specs, and it was around $5500. Needed bumper, front headlights, new dual exhaust.

I'd say thats not even close to $10000 in damage. and thats a little less then the car is worth.

for those that have tototalled their msp, if you dont mind me asking, how much did you get from the insurance company?

First, the MSP does not have a "frame" as in an older camaro or rustange. The car is made with the unibody build. (Everything is basically bolted to the unibody which is like a skeleton and most cars are built these days with unibodies.

If the rear unibody is damaged, as it really does appear in this picture. It may be torqued too much for them to be able to strighten to factory specs. I suggest never taking a car back if the shop cannot pull the unibody back to factory tolerences. (which in most cases they cant) You DO have a right to refuse the work, because it does not fit your liking. In this case, your insurance co might JUST let it get totalled out if you let them know that up front. :D

Ohh, and IMHO, Ihink they will total that out. Too much unibody damage, and it looks like some D/S rear suspension issues too. :D
