this is just a general question for what the pros and cons of the haltech interceptor and xede engine management systems for the mazdaspeed 3... after reading these forums for a couple days I can tell that my knowledge about the car is quite inferior, any help will be greatly appreciated... for awhile i have been looking at the upgraded turbo kit offered by atp, but before that i would like to get one of these systems or if there are better ones out there... thanks for any assistance

sorry for the noob question

Major con for the haltech. There is no application for the speed 3..

I had found the haltech on the following website:

http://www.*************.com/ms3-4.htm

i've checked other websites and it seems like this one must be wrong then... but is there any other systems available for the speed3? or is the XEDE the only one on the market so far

The XEDE is the ONLY system on the market currently. There are others coming out but no definite dates have been set.

i used a haltech on my protege and it was a very good system, however it was not the one listed on *************, it was an F10X unit.

the major problem i see with systems, right now anyways, that assume total control of the injectors is that a good number of them are not calibrated to handle the the kinds of injector timing and fuel pressures that direct injection entails. we're going to be doing some work with a standalone system pretty soon and hopefully there will be positive results.

the unit listed is the haltech interceptor, so basically it works the same as the XEDE, BUT no one has developed anything to use the haltech on the MS3.
You could make it work but you would need to make a base map and figure out the wires all on your own.
With the XEDE all of the hard crap is already done for you for basically what is $100 more.
Well worth it in my opinion

And timing pattern file to control the ignition retard. :)

I have a friend that works for Haltech. But problem right now is that I don't have access to workshop manual. Because I need the crank sensor wheel information. From what I know, both the CX-7 and MS3 uses the Mitsubishi ECU, and the Speed6 from another manufacture. But the 3 motors is very similar in design, so one would/can only assume the crank wheel sensor is the same (cost issue).

Anyway, if someone has a speed 3, speed 6, or CX-7 workshop manual, and can scan me a page of the crank sensor wheel, I can start passing information to Haltech. They personally belief it is the same crank sensor wheel as the WRX, but we can't verify until we have a picture of it.

Xede can`t get around the bottle neck as far as the cam controlled fuel pumps are concerned. Also Exede has to come out with an ECU like the HPF E46 M3 Turbo kit ECU designed and engineered by AEM that has total controll without interrupting stock ECU and is plug and play.
Unforutnately at the moment no one has a solution to the DI Turbo system, but are working on it.DI Injectors can handel it,but there are 2 fuel pupms that cause a limitation.

I have the factory workshop manual for the speed3, I will try to take time to take a look on this, Can I get a rebate from HALTECH for this? :):)
BTW, My email is: mnet25 yahoo.ca
I would be more than happy to help!

Hey borderline, could i get some copies of that too, especially the engine control/EFI section and wiring diagram for the ECU?? :)

I would like to help as much as possible with the development of a Haltech application for these cars, i honestly feel by what ive read so far it really isnt that hard to get a Haltech to run these engines, even with the direct injection. Also, there are 2 options for the fuel pump control, from what ive seen one runs all the time (in the tank) and the booster pump is controlled by the ECU and is either under pulsewidth control from the ECU or is just an on/off deal, which ever of the 2 options it is, its more than likely the Haltech E8/E11 will be able to control it since they have RPM vs. Load maps that can be used in conjunction with the PWM outputs. And i have seen some datalogs from a guy with a mazdaspeed6 where you can clearly see that injector pulsewidth looks pretty much the same as your average car, with the exception of course that the injectors are super high flow and there is a powerful booster pump feeding them.

So, any cooperation from anybody is well appreciated, a service manual to go over, and hopefully a gineapig to work would be the best.

If i can answer any Haltech questions please ask me and ill do my best to provide an answer. Also, i may be wrong, but doesnt the Interceptor look a heck of a lot like the XEDE? :D

Its probably the same box outside, but different hardware manufacturer inside, or best case scenario, the XEDE is an interceptor that these guys sell under their own name.

Yeah, ive heard the CP-E guys are getting decent results from their standback unit, but i am not sure what are the real capabilities on it.

as of now it can do everything the xede can do.
and there is a gen2 in the works now that will add....cam phasing, throttle plate control, individule injector control, and all sorts of high tech stuff.
i am usually not a piggyback supporter. i wouls usually prefer a flash tool or stand alone, but the CP-E piece looks great ! i'll find out soon, mine is on the way !!

I'm stoked about CPE's piece. They've been nothing but nice and helpful to me and I haven't even bought anything from them yet.

Just received the standback from CPE today! I am getting it installed, tuned and dyno'd 2 weeks from today...hate waiting.
