X-box and mods

OK now i have gone SEARCH CRAZY!
I am reading everything i can on modding x-box.
Any info or sites or first hand knowledge of anything wold be appreciated.I already went throgh all the sites and have some crazy ideas for my x-box but I want to do internal mods.
I am 100% computer illiterate but now i have somethign new to learn!

The chameleon has this 10 pogo pin thing that you screw into your board. Then you just insert the pins into the actually chameleon. Very easy. But definitely check out www.xbox-scene.com. I've modded about 5 xboxes and I got all my information from there.

it has pins that fall into the solder points, basically you just sandwich it against the mobo with a mounting screw
 
This thread comes up at an odd time because I've been thinking and searching about this very subject for a while. I know how to mod an XBox and I know what chip I want and where to get it, etc.....what I don't know is where to find the STINKING SOFTWARE TO RUN ON MY MODDED XBOX --- I want to run Evox, and a few emulators on the box -- but every site I go to doesn't have ANYTHING available for download! Somebody point me in the right direction (via PM if necessary)! HELP.
 
yeah, that's a very important question. Where or where will the stuff be. I usually have no troubles getting stuff, so I haven't really worried about it yet....but I will need to know sometime for sure

Yeah Newf, I started off the same way. I was totally ready to drop the dough on a XBox but at the last minute I thought I better just make sure I can find the software I want to run on it, otherwise it's useless to me. I have never had a problem finding stuff I wanted on the net - some of it which could be considered "sketchy" if you know what I mean - but holy hell I cannot find any XBox software anywhere! That is no joke - I have checked every nook and cranny of the internet I can think of, wasted countless days looking for it, and I'm still totally empty. MameX is about all I can find. EvoX and XSnesX are literally IMPOSSIBLE to find ANYWHERE. If anybody can help me out, pm or email me or whatever -- I'll consider you a God.
 
I will have to look into that link that sourceforce link that Vulcanon provided on page 2. I've ignored it in the past because it's not exactly what I want....but it would be better than nothing in my case.

Ok, if you want the evox software, you need to go to #xbins on efnet through IRC. It will have a topic there with an address to an ftp with all the stuff you need...evox, all the bioses, etc. This is basically the only place you can find the software.
 
Maybe some of you can help me out a bit. I have an XBOX that when turned on will load the menu screen so I can change settings but when you insert a disk you get an error. Im guessing the laser is shot and it cant read the disk. I get the error no matter what kind of disk is inserted.

Would I just have to install a new drive? If so, any of you want to help out ;)

I have since purchased a new XBOX so this one I could mess with a bit -- and even mod without fears since I really cant break it anymore than it already is.

Yea, probably the laser is shot. I haven't looked in a while, but the last I saw, you needed to actually take the circuit board out of the current DVDrom and put it in a different one. I'll check though.
 
Ok I am a total retard when it comes to console modding. In a nutshell what is a modded XBOX?? Also what would it take to be able to run MAME on my XBOX. I don't want to get into anything too harcore that will possibly mess up the console or make it unable to play regular games. I'd just like to be able to load MAME or other Emulators is all. Also don't want to do anything that is not easlily reversable. I got a free 2 year extended warranty on my console and want to be able to utilize it if necessary.

They wil know if you opened your xbox and doing so voids your warrenty so I wouldn't if you have a 2 year warranty.
