WTF...Is TomTom spying on us?

Was Poking around in my Nav unit (2015 CX-5 GT) and came upon a screen asking if it was ok for my nav to report some type of information (anonymously it said) back to tomtom! I unchecked the DEFAULT YES and switched it to no. I presume that it could only "talk" when the sd card was in my computer and connected to TOMTOM HOME.

Damn...was bad enough and now your own car will spy on us! (along with Google, Microsoft, Apple and who knows who else!) Paranoid...maybe, but who needs it. If they want my info they can BUY it from me or kiss my grits!

The NSA already knows where you are. If you're choosing now to become paranoid, it's already far too late :D

Realistically, though, you would sound a lot less crazy if you had actually read the prompt before screaming and pressing no. Just like every other software company, TomTom wants to improve their service, and they can't possibly do that if they can't figure out how people are using it in the first place. For all you know, they're just looking at what menus you use to find out whether it was easy enough to change the voices or not.

Thanks, but I value my privacy

Thanks, but I value my privacy.I have found through the years the more things I opt out of (like this, the better off I AM.)TomTom can pay people for their info, improve their product (assuming they even listen); just like companies used to do way back when!!

No, I am not paranoid, and things like the NSA, that are not within my control, I do not spend time worring about.
However, If I can reduce the amount of spam, unwanted mailings etc, I am only to happy TO OPT OUT!

I simply try my hardest to LIMIT the potential for unwanted snooping on my computers...

I also discovered that even pressing NO...the Nav unit at random, continues to ask me to opt back in!

People pay good $$ for this thing and it should be set correctly for their tastes. Actually I have the Nav unit ONLY because I wanted the rest of the Tech pkg. If it were a separate option, I would have chosen to remain with my Garmin portable and not have the in dash unit.

To clarify, it is quite convenient to have the built in, and it is enjoyable to have all the niceties that come in the GT Tech pkg. I knew of the built in "rip off" way back when. This is the 1st auto that I have purchased with Nav. NO REGRETS(rant)...I just choose to use it my way!

I did DUMP Mac OS X Yosemite and reverted back to Mavericks on my Imac. The snooping with Yosemite's Spotlight search was only a contributing factor, since it can be controlled. My Windoze pc (Win 7) is setup with software to assist me in keeping a lower profile.

Did not scream about anything since the OS X upgrade is FREE, and IMHO Apple can do what they wish...as long as they disclose it!!! It took 3rd party reviewers to bring the "issues" to light.

On your computer try this. Join Yahoo...surf a bit...and you will find that "magically" Yahoo seems to be able
show you selective advertising based on your surfing habits. Using Firefox, clear history (available with most browsers) prior to visiting Yahoo and the amount of Garbage and crapola will be drastically reduced. VALUING ONES TIME IS NOT A VICE...Spam robs one of their time..just deleting it and making sure you do not delete something of interest.

Amazon does it better...I can delete cookies (notice this site clears its cookies when you log out...kudos)..Super cookies require different means and are incidous...no one else can tell what they contain. but their creators.

This privacy option would NOT have stopped me from purchasing the package....

Unfortunately anything 10.9.x and older has this now...

Thank you...INTERESTING read! Thought this exploit was fixed by Apple (os x 10.9x) with a security patch. Will have to research again.

I did d/l 10.10.3 and created a usb installer with Diskmaker, just to have it. You never know with Apple. Os 10.10.x may be needed to install the next iteration, which is supposed to be another Snow Leopard TYPE release...(BUG CORRECTIONS)

Or it got reintroduced... long time Mac user here... I didn't dabble in the Apple II days... my start was with a Mac Plus - 1 meg of RAM / dual 800K floppy disk / 8Mhz 68000 CPU...

I haven't read much additional on this bug yet. It came through on one of the general OS patch management lists I am on.
