WTF... Cop cameras to catch speeders

we had something like that in hawaii, but they were van cams.

vans were parked on the side of the highway with cameras taking pictures of cars and if u went over the speed limit, u get mailed a ticket. even if it was like only 3mph over! everyone that lived on oahu pretty much wanted that s*** out-lawed because it caused more traffic (as if there aint enough).

peace

we used to have photo-radar. they were hidden in plain GMC vans that were parked on the side of the highway. they were very very effective. people were really scared of them. but they got rid of them after a while. don't remember why.

we also have red light cameras at major intersections in toronto. haven't heard of too many people getting caught by them, but i'm sure there are a good number of them.

at least they said this: "roads routinely monitored by the cameras likely would be posted with warning signs"... so I could avoid these roads like the plague

isnt it wierd that the court is going to hold the owner of the car responsible for the cars action when there isnt any proof that the owner was operating it?
isnt it wonderful how this will strip us of the right to face our accuser in a court of law?
taking the responsiblity away for the police to give it to a machine.

I don't mind the ones at traffic lights because I don't make a habit of running red lights. However my dad has a rather "conspiracy theory" interpretation of those... ie, big brother watching, keeping tabs on us.

The ones to catch speeders, though, I have a problem with. Cause I can usually avoid speeding in front of cops, but if there are cameras hidden that I have no idea about I could rack up hundreds of dollars in fines before the first ticket even makes it to my parents' house (where my car is registered). I hope they don't go through with this :(

yep, but there is no moving violation, no points on your license, just a fine... but yes I do see your point

do what i do, dont drive with a front plate ;) radar cant catch you! then again, a cop would fk u over (yupnope)

I guess it's the owner's responsibility to collect from whomever was driving their car on the date on the ticket

ha not true... FL doesnt have front plates and ive been caught.

This s*** wont hold... waste of money and no way to prove who was driving. Go to court and plead the 5th.

maybe, but it makes me seriously consider those license lenses that obscure the numbers above a certain angle (assuming the cameras would be mounted high)

it would have to high in order to time the distance. I think its garbage.

Im sorry but what about people who share a family? I wouldnt pay for my daughter speeding and if she doesnt pay then its on the owner... then if he doesnt pay theyll suspened his liscence? makes no sense.

I watched a tv show on that and they dont work. The police take the pic on color film, with the cover on the license plate numbers wont show up, but they can filter out the color to a grey scale which will clearly show the numbers on the plate.

I wanted one until I saw that.

You've got to love the photo radar (argh) . The funny part is that once people see these vans and figure out what the deal is they start to slam on the brakes, in heavy traffic! But I guess to Gov. it's OK, as long as it generates enough money. (yupnope). Cameras are impartial, they dont care who you are, why you are, or even that you are. IT'S ALL ABOUT MONEY!!! (thought)

Yeah, photoradar blows. The stoplight cams are great though, but on the road, DUMB. They are talking about bringing it back here, but I don't think they are? I dunno? Fuckem I say

in howard county they were trying to get a law passed that would allow them to contract out to PRIVATE companies to use photo radar guns to issue speeding FINES on the local roads.
this caused a huge uproar for the mere fact that even though the laws are to be followed by the people they are to be ENFORCED by a sanctioned body to POLICE the public.
we all know that cops are people but they are trained and are expected to rise above common stereotypes, racial grudges, political, person idiums.
they are to act fairly and execute the laws of the land in an appropiate manner.
if the 5 buck an hour rent-a-radar operator is given the chance to fine anyone he/she deems fit .... well youll see alot of BMWs and Mercedes getting tickets... well you get the idea.
